Re: The wanderer returns
I have made a load of lutinitza, which is a thick sauce made from tomatoes, peppers and aubergines which they use for all sorts of things, including pizza and as a topping for toast and bread. I added onions and garlic to mine, but I think the proportions are dependent on availability and taste. I h...

Re: The wanderer returns
Thanks Maykal. It has everything we need....or will once the heating is in (wood burners) and internal stairs. We have great neighbours, ex-pats in the village if we need to know anything but can't make the neighbours understand, in fact a great village with food and DIY shops, bakery, coffee shops,...

Introducing our chickens
We have recently (end of May) moved out to Bulgaria and hope to become near self-sufficient within the next couple of years. Not long after we arrived we were given five half grown chickens as a 'Welcome to Bulgaria' present, and they have been joined recently by a trio of rare Bulgarian Shumen chic...

The wanderer returns
Hello all. I joined earlier in the year, but events overtook us and in a whirlwind we looked at houses in Bulgaria, saw what we wanted, agreed to buy and were owners within a month. So notice handed in at two works, stuff bought, sold and packed, horse re-homed (mega sobs) cars sold (sob) and a drea...

Re: Howzit from South Africa
hello and welcome. It would be worth finding out about chickens. I lived in a normal urban street and had chickens, they are charming and don't need a huge garden, our's was quite small and we grew lots of veg. As long as you protect your veg (we fenced off the main veg area and put plastic net arou...

Re: Appenzeller Spitzhauben - Silver Spangled
I'd like to keep a selection for egg colour, but OH is thinking more along the Marans line for utility. We will be moving to Bulgaria and there doesn't seem to be much variety for sale out there, so it will probably be a case of taking some hatching eggs. Now, my choice or his? Hmmmm....

Re: Purple Sprouting Broccoli
Oooo I'm jealous, my favourite veg and no garden at the moment as between homes.
Overpriced supermarket stuff is just awful in comparison. Will have to wait till next year.
Enjoy!

Re: Hi from Chester
Thanks for the welcome. Things are moving at a good pace now and we are going on our week with estate agents in Bugaria in a month, all arranged. Meanwhile, I am missing my first growing season in decades...and I hate it! I will have to get some seeds that I can plant into pots, just to keep myself ...

Hi from Chester
Hi, I am a keen veggie grower, filling every inch of space in the garden with edibles, netting the veggie patch against three beautiful hens. We had our house on the market for three years, fed up of waiting for the new village allotments in North Wales to get going (local resistance) but when sever...
