Re: To all those junk collectors
It's the same here with regards to household electricals Ina. It wouldn't be so bad but the small stuff I could put in a bag, get on the bus that goes past the household recycling turn in and take it but the rule is no walk ins here too (think it's the big lorries that take away the full skips that ...

Good heavens, season for fruit best part gone. Where's the jam made? What a case you are Mr Viper. What's wrong with using internet anyway?

Re: Got the Signoff...
Believe me, the preserving is a job that will keep you busy and if the ingredients are free - excellent. Have you thought of learning to forage?

Re: Got the Signoff...
Ah so it's not sleeping on the streets for the Viper household then after all. Learn to freeze, preserve, bottle - grow crops that can be made into something long lasting. This time of year from now till end of blackberries on the farm mother lived in the kitchen preserving, bottling, jam making. It...

Re: Self Sufficient 2021
Another Covid spinoff - Apparently the huge demand for caravans, campers and boats is taking up all the materials I wonder what will become of all these caravans, campers and boats in two or three years time? Will there be a glut of these on the market when self sufficient travel goes out the window?

Re: Growing in 2021
Nothing knows what it's doing here with very hot summer weather, humid days and the odd day of torrential rain nonstop or days of passing violent showers and hot sun. You hear the cry of "my cabbages are splitting" and "my turnips are going to seed" - well yes the kale has done t...

Re: To all those junk collectors
If someone has been told to clear their allotment of junk, they'll be flogging what's useful to the local area rather than being charged for having it taken away in a skip

Re: To all those junk collectors
I'm sure that there's an awful lot of junk collected in allotment sheds that could be useful.

Re: To all those junk collectors
Or the lack of containers to transport things. We don't seem to build using local "stuff" or reclaimed "stuff" any more.

Re: Self Sufficient 2021
So we are still on rolling lockdowns of sorts. Half way through the year and still tied down in many ways. Facebook full of local businesses trying to drum up custom. Do you think that the pub culture has gone in the UK?

Re: Growing in 2021
So following on from the wettest May on record, we now have hot weather and howling, dry winds. Sort of makes the allotments a bit like growing in a semi arid dessert type area. Not easy.

Yep gooseberry pruning is an art learned - with well protected hands and wrists and arms.
