Re: Home made cleaning products

Well for me, I am sensitive to SLS which is a very harsh chemical used to make the lather that we have been marketed to believe makes things clean (it doesn't, they're just bubbles haha). Plus I am allergic to basically perfume (when it has been sitting open). So I started trying to look for cleanin...

Re: Not buy anything new 2014

Ina - St Andrews is the town with the fantastic charity shops, although not great at this time of year. The trick is to go at the time of year the students move home at summer, and around graduation when the students who have lived in St Andrews for a number of years move out. They tend to have a wa...

Re: A Scottish Foraging Odyssey Week 1 (A Trio of Fungi)

Thanks for posting, I really enjoyed reading it! I'm a total mushroom newbie haha but would love to learn more about them so I can pick my own. Think I might do some more research into the shaggy I kcal and give making some ink a go if I can find some locally. Looking forward to seeing more of your ...

Re: Not buy anything new 2014

Yup upcycled is second hand usually :) I am on holiday back home in Scotland for a few days so have of course been around the charity shops to get some clothes haha. Managed to double the amount of trousers I own to 6 (recently got rid of everything that doesn't fit, heh) which should get me through...

Re: Home made cleaning products

Thanks! I can't use essential oils as allergic (They are almost always either Limonene or Limalool) so good to see its not necessary. I'll see if I can find the ingredients this week and give it a go! Will have to look up the German for Borax haha, I've never seen it here but then I'm sure there wil...

Re: Home made cleaning products

Green Aura - I actually recently stopped using any form of shampoo haha. For a few months I used a mixture of honey and water which held my hair better than any hair oil/shampoo/conditioner/mousse combo I've ever used, but I decided to give just washing it with water and dry brushing a go. Just star...

Re: Get rid of fruit flies for good??

Hm, maybe its not fruit flies that I'm having the problem with. These aren't a huge amount bigger than aphids, but black with wings. The mosquitoes here aren't huge but much bigger than that - I can actually see the features of the mosquitoes whereas these flies are too small.

Re: Get rid of fruit flies for good??

Thanks guys! I'll give some of these ideas a go. Would a mesh screen work (for window and/or cover over fruit)? I find that the little buggers manage to even get into places that I'd have sworn were completely sealed!

Home made cleaning products

Hello, Just wondering if anyone here makes their own cleaning products, and of so - how? I tried making washing up liquid following a recipie recently (it was just baking soda, hot water, water and curd soap) and it was a complete disaster! Firstly it seemed to leave a residue, and then after a few ...

Get rid of fruit flies for good??

I know it is a bit late in the year for this, as they finally seem to be leaving, but how do I keep fruit flies out of my kitchen? The little buggers have caused me nothing but hassle the two summers I have lived in this flat. We don't really have cupboards, although we are looking to get some if an...

Re: What are you reading?

I have finished The No Impact Man and now started the Moneyless Man haha, getting a bit of a theme going :P I thought No Impact Man was good but I was quite disappointed by the ending, I mean I know it was awful about what happened with his wife's miscarriage, but the book seemed to quickly end afte...

Re: What are these berries (And nut)?!

Thanks!! My man is hoping to make some local Berlin wildberry infused vodkas so he will be delighted to hear this. Great to know there are so many edible berries so close to where I live in the city. Ironically, my parents' house, which is in a small town in Scotland surrounded by farmland, doesn't ...
