Looks like the perfect place to plug my book. Do you know Ruth? Perhaps I should drop her a line.

Re: Peat vs No Peat

Hello Nicky, have you tried the vegetable compost from New Horizon? It's much better than the woody one.

It will be either a day (10-4) with some lunch for £50 or half day without lunch (1-5) for £35, it will be in July or August and will very probably be in Bradlaugh ...

Re: how to prepare hogweed?

The seeds are very good as a spice but there are plenty of other edible leaves around this time of year to not bother with this plant. It has a strong irritant in the stem which burns the skin when exposed to sunlight. If I were you I would go on another foraging walk and find some alternatives to h...

It breaks down into tiny pieces proving a bigger environmental hazard than non-degradable packaging. On the soil subject, since studying soil science I ...

I really should be getting on with something else but the fertile fenland issue got my mind working. I've been looking at postcodes in the fens and yes they are fertile, however this seems to be on chalk or clay land not acid peaty soils.

Re: Peat vs No Peat

 thought saying the old's were stuck in there ways might get a little rise out of you Plus I also take issue on your dismissal of using peat as a soil improver ... peat can't disappear ! The very fact that it get absorbed within a few months surely means that it is a very good soil impro...
