Re: What a difference a hair cut makes!

It's amazing isn't it, glad it gave you a lift. I know what you mean about English hairdressers (I haven't been to them all so probably shouldn't generalise) - I'm bordering on phobic. I have the opposite problem to you MMM - I have tons of hair, which when it gets too long gives me a headache. So w...

Re: Folksy

looks great, Ann, I've signed up - hopefully I'll get a shop on there for some of my less Green Aura type stuff.

Although I must tell you all that I'm soon going to be the proud owner of a spiffy new website. Yes, Sal's come up trumps - wait til you see it!

Re: Is there a simple (and very cheap) way to make raised beds

See if you can get some wood via freecycle or skips (ask if you can take it though). You need to decide your dimension - the length doesn't matter but make sure it's no wider than 4 feet - otherwise you can't easily reach the middle. The wood you get will also dictate the shape. you need 4 chunky (2...

You lucky thing - we tried growing some from bean but they didn't germinate. Same with tea! I'd love to grow our own of both.

Re: The map of ishness

I'd like that - it'd be good to see where we all are. The only problem is it would have to be a world map so would be very small. What about a full screen one on the main site - viewers there might be tempted in - more members, more dots on the map!

Re: ........ plastic 4 pint milk bottles

I've got a similar problem - I've got loads of the things. Just discussed with OH and we're going to have a go at John's vertical gardening - make a frame and grow strawberries or something.

We'll see how they survive the winds!

T3sc0 are taking over the highlands

RANT ALERT :cussing: :angryfire: T3sc0 have just been given the go ahead, by the Highland Council, to build a fourth store in Inverness! It has a population of just 40+thousand and outliers like us go there for major shops - so add another 2-3000. I'm so angry I could cry - I'm not sure why they ne...

Re: Apple Tree Variety & Positioning?

The rootstock determines the size of the tree - so a dwarf tree stays small enough to reach the top and pick the fruit without a ladder. There are different ones. Google Ken Muir and his site has loads of info. Odsox is right - if you're only planning on one apple tree and your neighbours don't have...

Re: Apple Tree Variety & Positioning?

The distance between the trees depends on their rootstock - fruit trees are grafted onto different roots to control their size. If your pear tree is a dwarf rootstock then you can get a dwarf apple and plant them fairly close together - ours were about 6-8ft apart. If it's any bigger then you need t...

Re: Do/could you live without a credit card? Is this a goal...?

We have a credit card for online payments - no pin numbers so we can't use it anywhere else. Up here we'd have difficulty without it I think - we have to get a lot of stuff online. We try to be careful with it, but it does build up at times, then we go on strict rations and pay it off. Hopefully our...

Not a great petition signer, but I've done this immediately. Weber knew what he was talking about!
