Re: What interesting or unusual edible plants have you grown
Not quite as exotic as the plants already mentioned but we grow Daubenton’s kale. It has a finer taste and texture than the curly varieties of kale and as a perennial, if each plant isn't over-harvested, can grow for five to seven years (even through winter). Daubenton’s is easily propagated by heel...

Re: frozen cherry liqueur
Be wary if defrosting first, the fruit can oxidise (and turn brown) better to use straight from frozen; also sugars from frozen fruit will release better than fresh fruit. I found that if steeping for more than ten days the bitter almond taste comes through from the stones so keep tasting until you'...

I'm impressed, didn't know you could make glue from linseed. Not surprised though, I put a tablespoon on my oats every day and some always stick to gums etc.

Re: Winter greenhouse
I didn't have any luck with Pak Choi or Chinese cabbage (despite claims made in the seed catalogue) so going to try chard this year. Will transplant a couple of established plants from outside and already have a tray of seedlings to go in.

Re: Anyone made their own shed?
Carltonian man , that's a nice shed and sooooo tidy makes mine look like a right pigsty. Can I ask where the yellow pipes from the butts run to please? The yellow pipe balances the water level between the two butts so I can fill a watering can from the front one only, (otherwise it's a bit unprivat...

Re: Anyone made their own shed?
We built this 7'6"x 9'6" shed on our lottie last year from a mixture of gleaned materials (skips, freecycle etc.). The large eaves offer great protection from the weather.

It adds a tangy, rich layer under the cheese on melted cheese on toast.

Re: Pros and cons of keeping chickens on allotments
Are the allotments council owned? I read somewhere that the Allotments Act is law, therefore attempting to curb it is denying allotmenteers their rights, which is in itself unlawful. Hope that makes sense, there’s a bit about it here plus the 1950 Act (section 12 relates to chickens)

Re: Herbs
We have a handful of the above plus winter savoury. It's been fairly slow growing (now going into it's second year) so I don't know what it's like in winter yet but in summer it's like a tasty thyme.
