Re: Feeling restless

I know exactly what you mean. It was my NQT year last year (you are teacher too, right?) and I never had time for anything but work... and it was extremely depressing. I'm not sure I can give any good advice other than make sure you take time to dream your dreams! And if appropriate you could make a...

Re: Anyone able to do maths?

When I did maths we had to remember the 3,4,5 and 5,12,13 triangles. Why? Well, Big Al mentioned one reason - they can easily be used to check if a triangle has a right angle or not. But the real reason is that that they are commonly used in the exam questions... They are special cases of Pythagora...

Country Living Magazine

Not sure if this has already been posted about, but did you know that selfsuffcientish was mentioned in the Jan edtion of the Country Living mag? I don't usually buy magazines, but I was travelling and got this one to while away the time. It's on page 21 in an article called "How to be more self-suf...

Re: What's the difference between frugal & tight?

I agree with much of what's been said: frugal is being careful and making the most of what you've got. Being tight (like the man man in the article) is just mean! I was also shocked that he expected his wife to get up in the middle of the night. If he's so bothered about it, he should do it himself....

Re: Anyone able to do maths?

As a secondary school maths teacher (with a masters degree in maths!) I confirm Annpan's calculation! By the way, just in case you're stuck in the future, all computers are basically giant calculators and usually have a calculator function somewhere. Mobile phones have calculator functions too. Or p...

Re: organic boxes

That sounds like a great deal, mrsf...

I had one last year and found it so useful. Not only did we get such a lovely variety of veg (and grew to really love fennel which we might never have tried otherwise) but it made shopping so much easier. And it is cheaper for the amount and quality you get!

Re: Do/could you live without a credit card? Is this a goal...?

[quote="Millymollymandy"]Credit cards don't seem to exist in France so we have bank cards which are debit cards. You can use them on the internet or abroad because they are recognised as 'credit cards' when overseas as they have mastercard or visa logos on them but they are debited direct from your ...

Re: What does your home smell of?

My flat smells kind of musty at the moment so SOMETHING MUST BE DONE! My husband doesn't notice it though... I think it might be just because I'm pregnant and super sensitive to smells at the mo. :pale:

Re: wrappings for sandwiches

You can simply re-use the sandwich bags you already have! They wash well. Last year I had a special "washing line" above the sink for plastic bags... they were just washed as normal when I did the dishes and pegged up there upside down to dry.

Re: Do us a little favour, ah go on.

While you are talking about the book - where should one get it from? I've wanted to buy for a while but it is sold out everywhere. Even amazon (I dont like to buy through the market place). I bought mine from W H Smiths on Saturday. So there are copies floating around! I went in there to look for i...

Re: Given a tip by an NHS nurse

I'd just like to add that twice since I first read this post, I have burned myself and used honey on the burn... Hardly a mark now and seemed to ease the pain too. So thank you for drawing my attention to the healing properties of honey! :)
