Re: Bee swarm

Exciting! Perhaps the keeper of their home hive will be looking for them. My M-in-L used to tell me that, when their bees swarmed she used to set off after them with a straw skep to collect them when they settled. There`ve been several swarms of the hives on our allotments this week. Is it the warm ...

How I wish this kind of thing had been around before I became a crone.
Think I`ll speak to my grandaughters!

Re: Rhubarb leaves and chickens ?

My hens seem to know what`s good for them and what they should avoid.
For example, there isn`t a speck of growing greenstuff where they free range apart from the fruit trees and shrubs, but they never touched the shoots of the snowdrops when they emerged and we had a lovely show of blooms.

Re: Which Bread Flour?

I think you need strong plain flour for bread making.
The ordinary plain flour doesn`t have sufficient gluten to support the rising.

I`ve recorded it to watch when I`m not busy.
I thought it looked really relevant - but perhaps I got hold of the wrong end of the stick.

Re: just to say hi have been off line for a while

Hi Mel, welcome back. I`ve got a smallish garden, too, half of it taken up by the hen run, so I try to grow as much as I can on the front garden. I grow all my herbs there, my strawberries, lettuces etc. It`s a long trek up to the allotment so it`s quite convenient for things I need for salads or co...

Morning! and welcome to ish.
Is there, perhaps, some kind of book or forum where you could investigate locally available foraged food?
In my experience there are stacks more than you`d imagine - but experimenting can be a bit dodgy!

Re: Quick question about baby clothes

I`m sure that there`d be a market for vibrant colours for baby. If you look in shops you see lots of colours used, now, not just the white and pale pink/blue of yesterday. Certainly, the kind of parents who`d go for individually styled baby gear would probably also go for bright colours too. I think...

Propagating strawberries.

I watched Alys Wossername in that Edible Garden show and she said that you have to dig up and divide older strawberries and then they`ll be rejuvenated. I`ve always thought you have to peg down runners and plant them when they root. I never knew you could treat them as perennials and keep them going...
