Re: I need advice with my bread making

I have gone back to hand kneading when I'm able to, it makes me feel i'm more involved with the bread making process....not sure if that sounds weird or not??? I was reading the list of ingredients in shop bought bread and noticed that vinegar is listed. I tried adding 1 tablespoon of home made elde...

Re: Recycling Kids Wellies

My husband made some birdhouses out of old childrens' wellingtons. He put some scrunched up chicken wire into the toe and foot, cut a hole in to side for the birds to go through and made a lid with a hanging basket liner. I would put a picture of it up but i need a small child to show me how to do s...

Re: Travel sickness remedies for my dog

Have been trying to get her used to travelling but she's still no better. We have had to visit the vet and he's given us a sedative to use so she sleeps for the journey. We have half an hour drive to Rosslare harbour, then 3 and a half hours on the ferry, then 3 hours or so in the car to Wiltshire. ...

Re: Anyone else poo-less?

I have been trying to get soapwort plants for a while now. I used to grow them for a client in the Uk but can't find them over here. I am going back next week so will visit her and dig some up hopefully. I've never made shampoo from them, but i believe the process is to dig up whole plants and their...

Re: homemade wind turbines

Er.....seems to have stirred up same passion!! We're currently looking at a hybrid pv/wind turbine system, but i'm also investigating solar chargers for as many things as possible. I have just bought my husband a wind-up/solar radio as he cannot be in his shed without the radio on. I'm in the proces...

I want to buy a PV system, where sells them???

I have just had a few quotes from solar power companies for the suppley and installation of a PV system. They are just over the budget we have, and I was wondering if I could buy a complete system and then just pay to have it installed. Funnily enough, we knew someone in Engand who manufactures thes...

Ha ha, the good old 'egg and chip diet'!! Made me chuckle, always a fall back when I can't be bothered to cook!

Re: I need advice with my bread making

Thanks guys!!! That's all really helpful. I do use a dough hook on my kenwood - I have fibromyalgia and I find hand kneading very hard most of the time. I never thought of freezing in batches....so simple but such a good idea...and keeps the freezer topped up and running costs down. I will try addin...

I need advice with my bread making

I go through phases of making bread and not buying any at all, and then the complete reverse. The reason why is that my kids don't eat the homemade stuff as well as i'd like. If it is fresh out of the oven, they'll burn their faces off eating it, but by the time its in their lunches at school the ne...

Re: Top of the Mornin' to ya!

Hello to both of you, we moved to Wexford 11 months ago from Chippenham in Wiltshire. Trying to do much the same as you, have got goats, pigs, sheep, rabbits, ducks and chickens. Have planted an orchard and a coppice, and have dug a pond. Was sufficient in veg and milk and almost in meat last year, ...
