Re: Does anyone grow olives?

Thanks everyone for your replies. They made me laugh! It doesn't sound like I should expect too much as I have recently moved to West Yorkshire where the weather is anything but an olive growing climate.
But, I will have a go because I have bought the seeds and will enjoy the drama.

Potatoes

I planted 60 tubers on 12th March and I can't see any growth yet. Is this normal and if so how long will it be before I see anything?

New to this!

Re: weight loss group

An odd week on the scales. One morning I weighed 12 stone 4 then in the evening after eating healthily all day I weighed 12 stone 9. Am back down to 12 stone 4 now and much relieved. I have decided to give up on using the scales and go by the fit of my clothes. Currently a 14 is a little loose on th...

Does anyone grow olives?

I want to try growing olives but the trees are very expensive so I bought some seeds and am going to try and grow from these.
Has anyone grown an olive tree from seeds? Any advice much appreciated.

Re: what did you do in the vegpatch/allotment

I took some annual leave and have been very busy in the garden. I've tilled 3 vegetable patches from scratch. It was back breaking as the ground was hard and the soil poor. I had to dig in tons of soil enricher etc. I've planted peas which had grown very well in the greenhouse, planted second earlie...

Re: Like to give up the day job?

This website is so great. Such interesting people to share thoughts and goals with. Am taking a week off as it is the Easter break here and have spent the whole day in the garden, even though it has been raining all day. I've had a great day! I agree it is better to downsize slowly over the next few...

Like to give up the day job?

I work in education and despite how great the students are (mostly) I really don't like the politics, paperwork and constantly being made to feel like you're not good enough by senior managers who haven't come into contact with a student in years. :banghead: I love the garden/allotment and feel so r...

Re: How wet should compost be?

Thank you for the responses. The compost bin is in full sun, when it is sunny until about 5.00pm then in the shade. I've put kitchen waste such as vegetable matter, t-bags etc and some thin cardboard in so far. It's quite a big amount of both in equal measure. I haven't put garden cuttings or grass....

How wet should compost be?

I've been keeping a compost bin for about two months and this week added some additional worms as it didn't seem to be breaking down as much as i expected. How wet should the compost be?

Storing potatoes

I would like some advice on the best way to store potatoes. Some websites say paper sacks and some same cardboard boxes through the summer and autumn. What is the best way to store them over winter? I've got a brick shed in the garden which has ventilation and an electicity supply but no windows. :s...
