Re: what did you do in the vegpatch/allotment

Busy day today with planting peppers, runner beans, moving containers, planting out loads of flowers. It's amazing how quickly the day goes. Great day!

What a day!

Having lived with the threat of redundancy for two years I was appointed in a restructure in Jan. Don't have a great line-manager (very lacking in emotional intelligence) and today sat through a meeting with her where she was very critical and then told me we are going into another restructure (whic...

Re: what did you do in the vegpatch/allotment

Over the last two days I have re-potted the squash into bigger pots as I have to wait for the potatoes to grow before I have the space to plant in the ground. I moved things around in the herb garden to improve the aesthetic. I've edged it with various shrubs, flowers and bulbs in pots and I'm very ...

Re: No potatoes and rhubarb is dying

I'm going to have to water more by the sounds of it. It's been raining for two days now but unfortunately, and I never thought I'd hear myself say this, the weather forecast for the rest of the week is sunny and warm.

Re: Rain at last

It rainded yesterday and I was glad as it meant I didn't have to spend an hour watering. Back to usual today though and the weather forecast is for no rain for the weekend and the whole of next week.
I need rain! :banghead:

No potatoes and rhubarb is dying

I planted tubers on 12th March. I dug up one stem today to see what was happening and the bud potaoes have only just begun to grow under the soil. They're tiny, no bigger than a couple of centimeters. Is this normal? My rhubarb is dying and I don't know why. It's in the shade but does have...

Re: weight loss group

Completley off the rails! What a weekend. Rice pudding, ice-cream, crisps, crisps and more crisps, three bottles of wine, chocolate cake...the list goes on. Back on the diet since Tuesday since the unofficial diet clearly wasn't working. I feel really tired and am sure it is as a result of the junk ...

Re: what did you do in the vegpatch/allotment

I've moved the 6 rhubarb crowns into more shady spots but I'm not hopeful they will survive. W.Yorkshire is supposed to be great rhubarb growing area but not for me - I can't work out what I'm doing wrong with them. Planted two apple trees, planted out Acasia Lillies, two of which flowered today and...

Re: what did you do in the vegpatch/allotment

Planted out lettuce, peppers, chillis, loads of flowers, rocket in grow bags, two apple trees and more herbs. I laid pebble paths through the herb garden, stripped out the dead bluebell vegetation and made 30 climbing frames for the broad beans and garden peas (they look much nicer now they are clim...

Re: weight loss group

Went under 12 stone for a few days then everything came to a stand still. I suspect my metabolism got bored of not being active. I ate a couple of cakes, some crips (my favourite treat) and had a couple of glasses of wine and hey presto the weight started to come off again. In a nice size 12 now and...

Re: Use of space

Thanks everybody for your replies I don't want to risk stunting the vegetables that are already growing well. I'll try to keep the cabbages growing in pots until I harvest the first lot of potatoes. Nothing is growing as quickly as I need it to. Beginner's impatience! Next year I am going to have a ...
