Re: Dog Poo

Our dog only 'goes' when we're out walking (we live out in the country) and it (his poo) disappears after a couple of days. In fact, there are loads of dogs taken for walks down this road and you would be hard pressed to find any poo. I believe slugs eat it. Nonetheless, if I collected it I would pu...

Re: help the governments

For those the nicer side of the Irish sea, ( ) here's Der Spiegel's analysis of what's going wrong in Ireland - and where we should be going (ie doing an Iceland).

We are not going to be able to pay the w...bankers' debts, ever, so I don't think we should even start.

Re: Sun tracking solar panel

solarwind: have you seen that book Do It Yourself 12 Volt Solar Power by Michel Daniek? Here's the contact details. A fascinating little book - which also includes plans for a solar-powered solar panel tracking device. When mounting solar panels on the ground (on a frame or whatever) two things: kid...

Re: Wind generator

A friend of mine wants to build himself a wind generator I find baked beans work best. :cooldude: Seriously, Hugh Piggot of Scoraig Wind has downloadable plans which are brilliant. I've participated in making one of the turbines (don't have one of my own yet) and they're basic and do work but you n...

Re: Buy cheap buy twice

e-bay can be good too if you know what you're doing.

The 24" iMac I'm typing this on was a bargain but I got in touch with the guy selling it first and got to know him a little; it gave me a bit more confidence in the deal.

Re: TV licencing bloke calls...

If I had a TV it would annoy me so much I'd probably end up throwing something at it and breaking it  tvs in pubs make me want to do similar things... or worse, when you visit someone and they leave the tv on, grrrr. 90% of what's on, holds absolutely no interest to me whatsoever so it's n...

But back to the topic. In 1989 I bought a Salter coffee grinder. I have used it every day since then. It runs on biofuel (!)

Re: Buy cheap buy twice

I'm on a Mac from about the same time (2002/ 2003). It's great, it's a bit slow and it's days are numbered because I can't update my browser but it's had an excellent innings  . At work I use a PowerMac from 2001; it's had an extra drive and new power supply but still earns me money, day i...

Re: TV licencing bloke calls...

Getting rid of the tv must be the first step in self-sufficientism. What do you think?[/quote Explain. What I think I mean is this: does aspiration towards a self-sufficent lifestyle contain any justification for spending cash on such frivolities as tv? Perhaps another way: self-sufficiency, does t...

Hello greenorelse and welcome - any snow? None here to speak of. Something to do with the gulf stream, methinks. Very low temperatures though - mad for the west of Ireland. Cycling anywhere has been out! :pale: Welcome to ISH :flower: We may be quite close to you soon as we're heading to Co ...
