Re: Environmental enrichment for my ladies

We throw some of our grass cuttings in as well as any weeds that I pull up, they love scratching around in it and every so often we rake it all up again, it great for the compost with all the added chicken poo.

Re: Selling eggs

We're more than happy with £1 for 6. I've seem signs for as much as £1.50 for 6 but we're not doing it to make a profit, just to cover costs. I nagged OH like hell end of last year because he was selling to his mates at work for 50p for 6 eggs and wanted to buy in more birds to meet demand and yet I...

Re: Would You Go For This Type of Holiday?

It's something that would definately appeal to both of us now, but going back a few years when I was a free'er spirit it it would also have appealed to me as something I would have felt happy to participate in

We put a sign out yesterday (first time we have had surplus eggs to sell) and first thing this morning had someone knocking at the door wanting to buy some. Small thing but what a rush!!!!

Re: Too young to process?

So glad it worked out, I've been talking to OH about this and wondered how things went. I know someone who's living is sheep farming and yet all the lambs go off to slaughter without their children (9 and 12) having any idea where they are going. Then they go to T***o and buy a lamb joint for Sunday...

Re: Too young to process?

My niece was about the same age when she watched her dad despatch and clean a duck. She was more curious than anything, asking questions about the different bits. Certainly no nightmares and she's growing up amazingly well balanced, she respects animals but accepts where meat comes from.

Re: Cost of Rabbit

Thanks for all your input. They're NewZealand X so should get to a reasonable size. I've been handling these a lot cos I didn't want them traumatised when handled for dispatch :( and unfortunately have made the mistake of getting too attached to them. Think I may try and sell these as pets and keep ...

Cost of Rabbit

We have our first litter of baby rabbits with the sole intention of providing some meat for ourselves. However we have been asked if we would sell some as apparently it's not easy to get hold of round here. I don't know that I want to go the route of selling it, but if we do have no idea what the go...
