Onions doing my head in!!

I can't grow onions. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong but every year they go belly up. So this year I spent ages preparing the plot, loads of lovely manure, if I was an onion I'd have been really happy. Planted my little sets, and they started to shoot. The tops grew beautifully, nice strong...

Ooo I like it, it's got a kind of 40's retro vibe going on. Where did you get the pattern?

Re: Mouse in the shed, help!!

Thanks guys the only thing I've noticed to be honest is a few unearthed onions, just remembered an episode of river cotaage where a mouse ate the beetroot crop and got a bit worried. Guess I'll have to bung up the hole under the back door before winter comes and it get in the house though. Again.......

Mouse in the shed, help!!

Today we disturbed a field mouse nesting in our shed, which wouldn't normally be a problem, but I'm worried in case it starts eating all my hard grown fruit and veg. Any ideas on plants they don't like the smell of to discourage it, or how to get rid of it for a while. Our garden backs on to a build...

Re: Stupid, stupid people......

Going back to Strawberries, I had some plants on my desk at work the other week ( a gift from a collegue) and my boss stopped by to ask what they were. When I told him strawberries he looked at me like I was stupid and said not to be so daft, strawberries come in plastic boxes. And this guy had a ve...

Same as what makes a good husband, a kind heart, a sense of humour and the ability to know when to get the hell out of my space!

Re: What people find important

I thing we're all missing the big issue of this thread. The real question is...... Haggis, liver and other offal related deliciousness? I get some really funny looks from the philistines I work with when I tell them that liver is my favourite meal with mince onions and dumplings. And cold haggis on ...

Re: Rhubarb - what am I doing wrong?

Thanks again all, I dumped some nice manure on it to see if it helps. And it's definitely not Norwegian Blue Rhubard as it is not bereft of life or resting in peace!! Nice one!!!
