Re: Feeling sorry for myself

cut down on jam, I make my jam using unrefined dehydrated cane juice so my jam isn't that bad for you. I am sorry to snigger but I find the slightly incongruous phrase "cut down on jam" has tickled my fancy!(but yes sugar is bad for you!) ETA something actually helpful. here in Australia we h...

Re: But what do you really want out of "ish"

See for me the word "ish" (if it is a word :D) is the key. We have dream you know the usual a few acres, old farmhouse (or manor house says my husband) with chickens, goats, cows, orchards, veges kiddies running free and helping with the tending the animals and garden but I am running a small busine...

Elderberries, how do I know they are ripe?

Re: Digestive biscuit recipe?

I have just made River Cottage's recipe and it is quite good, I didn't have spelt flour so I ground my own wholewheat using Thermomix..

Digestive biscuit recipe?

For reasons which will soon become clear I find myself needing a cheap wholesome actually tasty biscuit and I know I am terribly fond of mcvities (no not with the chocolate) digestives (but not hobnobs) but they are $4 a packet here in Australia (nearly 2 Pound Sterling). Does anyone have a tried an...

Re: Milk intolerance?

Well rash is gone behaviour is generally about 40% better and he spend time being happy these days so I am just going to keep him off the dairy for the time being. He seems ok with some Parmesan cheese but the other day he kept sneaking feta cheese from my Greek salad and the next day he spent a lot...

Re: Milk intolerance?

I am not sure that humans need milk, my boy gets calcium from tahini, almonds and leafy greens and some fish with edible bones, good fats from fish and nuts and protein from eggs and plenty of vitamin D from the Australian sun and the replacement with non dairy milk is a psychological one rather tha...

we use Panela/rapadura instead of processed sugar- it is apparently just dehydrated cane juice maybe easier than refining sugar?

Re: Lets not call last orders at the Selfufficientish pub

I think that huffing and puffing about what one person may have said once and declaring they are leaving probably shows us more about the leaver than hold a mirror up to the 'Ish community at large. If I was only social with people who agreed with everything I said and thought I would be very lonely...

Re: Buning of the clocks next week

Oh dear. Such rapid degeneration! My husband has been known to almost cry from laughing when seeing a crudely drawn willy drawn in any medium- he also never misses an opportunity for amusingly positioning fruit. I think it is a man thing. Or something from his childhood that he never worked through ...
