Re: Oh do stop moaning

Go on, I'm in with you. I do try not to moan too much, because I've known a lot of moaners in my time, and they really sap my energy (I like justified funny moaning, it's when people moan continually about one thing that they could do something about but won't that I find myself grinding my teeth). ...

Lace shawl with skulls on it.

I made a lace shawl (don't read this post if you are one of my blog readers because you'll be sick of me and my shawl! ;-) ). It's a circular shawl with skulls on (I followed a pattern, I didn't make it up) and I was amused by the ironic juxtaposition. Small things etc  . Apologies for flickr ...

Re: Breast feeding, socially unacceptable or not?

This isn't about celebrities, body image in general, Loose Women or anything like that. It's a thread where someone said she wasn't feeling comfortable/ supported in breastfeeding the way she wanted. In that context (indeed, in lots of contexts), 'I love breasts!' isn't a brilliant response.

Re: open a jar?

Run the lid under a hot tap for a few minutes - it expands the lid and makes it easier to twist off (I know that sounds a bit as if it wouldn't do anything, but it always works for me!).

Re: IBS? (tmi in places)

Sorry it's an awfull subject, No, it could have been a far worse subject. You could have been telling us about how industrialisation is TERRIBLE AND WE MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW or how if everyone just drank juice we would all be thin like whippets, or, I shall not even mention vaccines. IBS i...

Re: anyone got a simple pattern for slippers?

Clare, I made these:

http://knitwits-heaven.tripod.com/pocke ... ippers.htm

They didn't look very attractive on me, I have to say ;-), but they were quick, easy and functional (and there are some projects on ravelry where they look nice, so I am sure it was me and not the pattern!).

Re: Crochet Hooks

Definitely! Whenever I get my knitting/ crocheting out in public (I'm not much of a teacher though so I just let people look/ touch and tell them what I'm doing) I always get a really positive response, and you're right, so many people tell me how their granny used to do it, and what she used to mak...

Those are amazing. Also I read your blog and what a great thing to do, going round festivals teaching people how to knit/ crochet, I bet that's really popular.

Re: Should spell checkers be mandatory ?

I think it's polite to try and communicate so that other people can understand you reasonably comfortably, but, I do think Boboff is right (God, what's happening to me?), people are starting from very different baselines. Obviously, people suffering from dyslexia and such are going to struggle but t...

Re: Should spell checkers be mandatory ?

I say could 've, would 've, should 've (I guess having a somerset accent is bad english.) and type it as 'could of' etc. But why do you say it right and then change it when you write it so it is wrong? (I know right and wrong are loaded terms! I'm not being bitchy, I'm just interested). Do you not ...

Re: Books to avoid

Natural handmade soap from your kitchen by Janita Morris. Cost me £1 a few years ago, and that was £1 too much: it has nothing to do with soapmaking (in fact she says in the preface she didn't want to be messing about with lye, even though that is how you make soap , so it is all melt and pour and r...

And Hard Times.

Also, I shall use this thread to confess a liking for Tunnocks Teacakes, Tiger Bread, and Fillet o'Fishes (yes that one isn't spelt right. Don't make me google), which I believe to be all entirely made from CHEMICALS!
