Had my first Gardeners Delight cherry tomatoes - yummy yum yum  . So much better than the yellow ones! Ina did you eat yours yet? Picked the first ones today! And there's more to come... However, the other varieties still need some time. Hopefully the temperatures hold up a bit. Haven...

4x4s?!

I apologise to any non-farming 4x4 owners out there - but this is one of my "pet hates"... Just heard something on the radio (radio 4, pm) which made me listen up - unfortunately I didn't get the start of the story, so if anybody's got the full one, please complete: In Paris, a group of li...

You don't know what slow is... Actually, funny enough although everything else on our computers is veeeeeryyyy slooooooow (and often enough the b*** thing crashes just when you are trying to send a mail), this site has been quite ok. Anyway, we finally managed to persuade one of our IT department to...

Re: Soil Contributes to Global Warming

I wonder if anything could be done to limit this, such as agricultural practises that leave less bare soil exposed. Anyone an expert or care to hazard an idea or two? Wulf Well, I'm still no expert, but this publication has made things even more difficult for us... It's really hard to get reliable ...

Hiya I am already green with envy  ... 135 acres! Just a quarter of that would do me nicely. Well, actually just 5 would do as long as I have a fulltime job as well. I've worked on quite a few dairy farms, and always enjoyed working with cows. Also the cheesemaking that, im my mind, should ...

Now, I went to a Church of England school when I was a lad, but I can't immediately bring to mind any bible stories that mention Jesus running anywhere. However, we do know that he was a keen motorcyclist - there are a great many references to the Triumph of Jesus. Now, that's another thing my brot...

Just tell him animals can be pets and still productive! After all, you have no problem taking away all their nice little eggs, which are potential babies, the loss of which could cause them serious stress.... Most farmers I know love their animals and hate to see them suffer. Although they...

This is spooky - I've just spent the entire day researching the subject "climate change, agriculture and the environment in Scotland" - and now this! I don't get the Guardian, so thanks for the link, I'll have to look into that. Scotland has even more of a problem that way, the peaty soils...

Hey, I think I might almost beat you to it - some of my Gardener's Delight are quite red, and I think I'll have them at the weekend! The banana skin treatment must have paid off. All my colleagues know that they have to keep their banana skins out of the bin, as I need them.... Of course I did...

That's what I was wondering - but I've never had pumpkins with changing colour before! And I've got some other ones, from seeds kept from a shop bought pumpkin, and they are perfectly yellow. Or, I was wondering, if maybe it was a hybrid and the seeds split up in the next generation! Nevermind, I sh...

Mystery pumpkin

Well, I'm sure the picture on the packet of seeds showed yellow pumpkins, but now I've a load of light green, slightly stripey little balls on the plants - never seen a pumpkin like it! Anybody any ideas what that might be?

I've just had a quick google to find a picture for Nev (just to prove it's not rats) - and I think the American chicken of the woods looks different from the British one! Well, here's one from the UK http://www.tastymushroompartnership.co.uk/profile_sulphurpolyphore.html Neither, I believe, lays egg...
