Re: Pumpkin Query

Jumping on this thread.............

Ive planted a pumpkin by tomatoes  now the HUGE leaves are shading the toms. Can I cut some of the leaves to allow the toms to grow OK or will it kill the plant?

OMG!!

I was cleaning someones windows the other day which had welded on flypoo (nice!) so I decided, stupidly, to use a scourer  which has scratched the window! Im mortified! Anyone got any ideas how to right this problem or at least make the scratches look less? What a plonker!

Re: Making plant food ?

Nettles make great plant food. Just add to a bucket of water for 3 or 4 weeks then dilute to use. Dont leave the bucket too near the hosue tho - it stinks

Re: Hard to 'thin' out seedlings...

I couldnt bring myself to thin out parsnips but ended up with hundreds of tiny ones which werent good for much more than soup and very few large ones, so did learn my lesson. I do still try to replant them elsewhere though - still cant completely destroy them

Re: Seed catalogues

I always find Ebay a great source for seeds. Most of the bigger sellers will only charge 1 lot of postage regardless of how many seeds you want. Have bought far too many again this year! :flower:

Re: chinese recipes

Fee Fairy - are you still around? I want to know some recipes please!!

Deep fried shredded beef done like it is in the take-aways! Im close to getting it but the sticky coating is just not quite right!

Also, egg fried rice - again, close but not the same.

Cheers

Re: Seed sowing

Do I take it those that are doing toms and peppers now will be leaving those in greenhouses?

Can I plant peas in the same place as last year?

Going to have to plant something soon, the sun is shining and its glorious outside

Re: Borlottie Beans

Do these Borlotti Beans have to be dried or can they be eaten straight from the plants? If you can use them fresh, do they take a long time to cook or are they just like standard beans? Seems from this thread theyre used mainly in stews and long cooked things.

Re: Frosted!!

Digging this thread up again, my chilli plants did recover after the frost and sprouted new leaves. Hooray I thought until my cats dug the plants up and killed them anyway :banghead:

Re: Sweetcorn

Hey M3  Do you measure your plants when putting out or just do it by eye then? And do you shake the ears or leave it to do itself? Would you plant the different varieties all together or in separate sets? Excellent news about the creme  Mine never lasts long enough to bother freezing t...

Re: Sweetcorn

Hi Odsox, Im lucky if I get 1 cob per plant and then theyre tiny or only partially filled (and thats with growing at least 50 plants!) The plants all seem to grow well for a while but never end up like they say on the packs. Ive also suffered from that revolting grey mould several times. I know swee...

Re: Frosted!!

The ones that got frosted have been really blitzed and lost all their leaves :( Never mind, theres a few plants left. Lost all my squash plants too that actually had fruits on for the first time this year! Never mind, always next year (again!) :flower:

Frosted!!

My chilli and pepper plants got frosted the other morning and the leaves have wilted. Ive since bought them all in as some survived. Will the ones with frosted leaves grow again or have they had it?
