I know many many people with peg-legs and parrots who get me things for a piece of eight.

Isn't this akin to being selfsufficientish with food by just stealing it from a shop?

Re: I'm sticking it to the man.

Did you go for the SSD or conventional hard drive?

Where did you hear that an Aspire specific version of ubuntu was being developed, have you tried the current version, 8.04, apparently you can dual boot into it so that you can give it a try without doing a full install onto your hard-drive.

Re: Cds to Mp3

This may be too late, but if possible hang on to your original CDs, as MP3 and other formats such as AAC, which is Apple's propriety format for the ipod, are lossy in that they aren't quite as good as the original copy once compressed. Although for most needs and headphones the compressed version is...

Re: No TV for a while

Is there anything actually worth while watching between 0830 - 1000 in the morning? As Annpan has said we (I'm the OH) don't have one but do watch DVDs on the laptop, with that we seem to only have something on that we actually want to watch, instead of the monotonous droning on in the background th...

Thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone. f you cycle to the bus stop - is there anywhere you could leave the bike securely while you are at work.. The cycle and ride idea could be quite good, but there isn't anywhere i could safely leave it I'm afraid. A nice light bike with lots of gears w...

Thanks for the encouragement everyone, I'm still mulling it over. Currently I don't have a bike, but the weekly petrol saving would be help pay for it especially in the current market. I don't know how easy it would be to include public transport in part of my journey as the train wouldn't be an opt...

Thanks for the reply Martin, I suppose the compatibility thing would be the bigger issue.

No need for a new computer just yet but will bare it in mind for the future.

Thanks

We have a Qualcast Panther, seems to be quite good and reliable and fairly cheap (about £30). We've had it a year and it's been through the wars, tackled some very tough and long grass. Invariably ours gets left out in the rain some of the time by AnnPan. Best things about push mowers, they ...

Cycle to work

I have been thinking about cycling as least part of the way to work, currently a 16 mile, 30 minute drive. However the non-driving option could mean a 1.5 mile walk/cycle to bus stop then around 25 minutes on bus and then another bus for around 10 minutes. The most direct route is about 13 miles, is...

A couple of questions for anyone to answer on the eee:

Are there any compatibility issues between Open office and MS software?

Anyone tried to use an external hard-drive wirelessly to backup data?
