Re: Alternatives to the Mooncup? (a women only thread i guess!)

It's funny how we're all so different! I started with the pinch down fold, but found I was getting alot of leaks, but the when I did the C fold I've had no problems at all. All part of the trial and error journey!

Re: Cheap recipes

Tonight's dinner was a chowder of sorts - onion fried with a little oil, cauliflower, 1 diced frankfurter, peas, corn kernels & cooked diced potato all simmered in chicken stock with a small amount of milk. Then at the end a wee bit of cornflour to thicken and a few dollops of sour cream - very ...

Re: Paper logs

This sounds like just the kind of child-labour activity that might keep my 2 occupied for a minute or so.
Thankfully my dad made me a steel press for paper making, so maybe I can adapt it for bricks as well.

Re: Alternatives to the Mooncup? (a women only thread i guess!)

I know of a woman who gets her sponges from the local chemist (they are the natural ones not a commercial make up sponge) and swears by them. I'm a Mooncup user (but there are quite a few different varieties around now) and I love it!!! Like most other people, it took me a good 3-4 cycles to get com...

Re: Stevia fans???

Frozenthunderbolt - I had some ordered in for me by Kings Plant Barn on the North Shore in Auckland a few years back. Sadly I neglected them and they died, but I did dry the leaves and grind them - very sweet!
So maybe try asking around for them, maybe a garden centre might locate some for you.

Re: I need some urgentish chicken help!!!!

Well we got home today and all our chickies are intact! The morning we went to leave the mother was hanging around the broody coop clucking to the babies, so I let her back in with them and my aunt kept an eye on them. She kept them all together locked away for a day then has had them out and about ...

I need some urgentish chicken help!!!!

We are going away for 4 days tomorrow morning. But we've been trying to let our 4.5 week old chicks have some time out of their run. Today was the first day that they've had all day out. They all survived (yay!) but late afternoon I noticed they weren't staying in much of a group as they had previou...

Baby Chick questions

We have had the arrival of 9 chicks, thanks to the loving care of one of our barnevalder hens. Currently they (the chicks and mother) are in a separate broody coop in the same orchard as the other chooks. When do you think we should let them out to roam about? I'm worried because our cat is a hunter...

I haven't read the whole thread, but wanted to chime in - I'm a big fan of my mooncup and also use cloth pads. There is a wonderful producer here in NZ (well shes just moved to Aussie) http://www.outrageouscloth.com/. But the majority of mine are homemade and work very well indeed. Initially I was g...

Yup we use cloth wipes here. I just use water most of the time and wet the wipes as we need them. But for a simple wipe solution you can add a squirt of organic baby wash to some water and dip them in that, put in a spray bottle or soak them in it (the wipes that is). Or a mixture of witch hazel, jo...

I'm a crock pot convert as well! I use mine 2-3 times a week and find it such a time saver. I also never do roasts in the oven anymore, they just come out of the crock pot soooo tender and moist.

We've just fenced our wee girls into the orchard, so we now have a poo free back yard! Also I just bought one of these http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farming-industry/Farming/Poultry/Equipment/auction-158681906.htm which I'm hoping will save us from feeding the entire Cambridge sparrow population...
