Re: Tidying up with ...

My mum was so cross. She had a key to her friend’s house so she could have just gone in and sorted out what she could when she had time and it would have saved the family money. It cost them a fortune to have the house cleared.

Re: Slug pellet ban

The organic pellets are widely available in the UK now, even Wilkinson’s sell them. The RHS did a trial a couple of years back and said that they were as effective as the metabiwhatsit ones. Use them sparingly and replace after rain. A colleague of mine was asked to review the claims about not harmi...

Re: Our new world diet?

I will confess to not having read the full report but BernardSmith’s quotation that we should move to a diet based on legumes and grains scares me. As a Coeliac, there are many grains I can’t eat unless I want to be really sick. I wholeheartedly agree that we should go back to eating locally produce...

Re: Tidying up with ...

When my mother’s friend and neighbour died last year, she contacted his children, who didn’t live locally, and offered to help with sorting through his things and taking the good stuff to the charity shops. They declined her offer as they were sending a house clearance company. When the van turned u...

Re: Free food

Being Coeliac, I won’t be growing wheat anytime soon but I could be tempted to try oats given that gluten free oats are ten times the price of the gluten infested ones. I’d be interested to hear how anyone else gets on.

Re: Winter storms

Well something blew down one of the poplars in the school field behind my house. Squashed one of my greenhouses and took out three fence panels. Given that the trees are over 80ft high we got off very lightly with so little damage. School has already offered to replace the greenhouse and the fence.

The answer to that one is try it and see. I start mine off on a windowsill early in the season so it could be possible.

Re: Men plucking their eyebrows!

As someone who did fall into the trap of plucking my eyebrows when I was younger, I can say that one of the advantages is that the hair stops growing after a while. I rarely need to do mine now as the ones I used to pluck don’t tend to grow anymore.

Achocha tea

I have some fat babies growing again this year. I’ve read that the seeds can be brewed into a tea which is good for a number of ailments from blood pressure to digestional disorders. Does anyone know how to make the tea? So far I’ve just thrown the seeds in a mug and poured just boiled water on them...

Re: Men plucking their eyebrows!

If it helps him to feel good about himself then why not? Especially if he’s got very prominent eyebrows. But it’d be a shame if he became obsessed with them or overdid it.

When I was looking for my last house I specified that I wanted a 3 bed house with a garden. I got sent details of one bed flats with no outside space :?
