Building an underground store for produce in UK
Good evening self-suffientish-ers! It's been a while since I have been on here, apologies for that, but in this hour of need there was only one place I could go for help!! I run a small artisan bakery and we always struggle for space... I have some land we have permission to use, and we already have...

Your top 5 recommendations for wild food goodies in November
Good Evening all!! I am still very new to foraging... whilst I have been doing it for a little while, I have unfortunately not put in the time I probably should have to learn about new species of plants and other edible goodies and then head out to identify them. Therefore, I thought it might be a n...

Re: Hot water heating options for small business
Mamos - it would, although don't know how much heat it would draw out from the oven... may cool the oven too much to be able to cook in it....
hmmm, interesting stuff

Re: Hot water heating options for small business
Thanks all! Some very interesting stuff here already... love the navitron kit, but not sure I would have the place to position it so it is south faceing without requiring a lot of piping from where it would be to where the water would be needed. Gas-fired water heaters? Interesting, although that wo...

Hot water heating options for small business
Evening all, I wanted your thoughts, specifically, on how best I might be able to provide hot water for my bakery. I am setting up in a bog standard industrial unit, which I will most likely not be occupying for more that 4 or 5 years and therefore don't want to invest the earth into it, but do want...

Re: DIY heatsink for use with earth/clay oven
JulieSherris, Actually, looking on ebay, I may have found what I need: Click here to view ebay posting The dimensions are 6.35mm diameter, with wall thickness of 0.71mm, so a LOT smaller pipe than then conventional domestic copper pipe... Not that expensive either... what would your hubby think? Tri...

Re: DIY heatsink for use with earth/clay oven
JulieSherris, thanks for that!!! Your hubby sounds like he knows his stuff!! I agree with it all completely, just wonder where you can get anything thinner than the standard copper piping used for plumbing... I loved the idea of using piping from the fridge (provided this can be done without polluti...

Re: DIY heatsink for use with earth/clay oven
I have been thinking about this, and reckon that, if there is a way to get hold of the thin piping that is on the back of fridges as part of the heat exchanger (without polluting by releasing the gas from them...not sure this is possible) and using a pipe bender to bend it into a coil, then that coi...

Re: Earth oven
Morning! That's interesting, although my reason for using adobe is simply that it is readilly available, and especially if you network around with local building companies, you will be able to get hold of plenty they are digging out of the ground where they intend on laying foundations, that is dest...

Re: DIY heatsink for use with earth/clay oven
growingthings, thanks for that, yes sounds like the similar sort of lines of what I am thinking... could you get him to have a think about and pass on any thoughts he may have on this? Am quite handy, just don't want to do it for the sake of doing it, want to make sure I get it right if I can, so I ...

Re: Earth oven
Evening all!! For those who might still be watching this thread, I have built my own, and it captivated me so much I have been planning to open a small artisan bakery for the last year or so and things are just starting to take shape. I learnt everything I know from a book, but since experimented a ...

DIY heatsink for use with earth/clay oven
Evening all!! Been a while, but I am back in the saddle - some great conversations been happening on Green building though, so big pat on the back to those who contribute regularly. For some time I have been planning the launch of a small artisan bakery in the Bath area. I am committing to looking a...

Anybody got an effective woodlice deterrent?
Good evening, We have just moved into our flat and every night our patio walls that are newly painted in a light cream colour are crawling with woodlice that come out of the woodwork (literally!) Has anybody got any homemade remedies/ideas to eradicate them or deter them? Otherwise, any good product...

Many thanks! Just to clarify, my intention was not to heavily crop, just a few leaves as you said. Am more interested in experimenting than actually making bucket loads of the stuff...As for the bulbs these would be in very minimal quantities and on private land. Thanks though, well worth clarifying...
