We haven't had rain for about 3 weeks and the ground is rock hard. The weather forecast promises rain but it never comes. And I am on a water meter

I have been trying to be self sufficientish for at least 10 years now. I consume very little, grow as much as I can, cook from scratch, make jams, chutneys etc, but have yet to get hens. The bees are doing well. I burn wood that I collect, use little water and electricity , don't own a TV but do own...

just leave the liquid manure in a covered bin and feed it to your veggies and fruit throughout the growing season

You lime the soil if it is acidic, or if the plants yo are putting in prefer alkaline conditions. Spuds like acid soil so put leaf mould in as this is acidic as it breaks down ( or just put some leaves in with your spuds) If you don't want to use lime you can use mushroom compost if you can get it. ...

if you do use it put it where you are going to plant your spuds as grass is acidic as it breaks down and spuds like an acidic soil. Good Luck!

ps... I use orninary white sugar not the stuff with the pectin added. I only use that for strawberry jam

this jam always sets well for me and makes about 10 normal jars full. i don't use a jam thermometer, I just test it on a cold saucer when I think it's ready and if it doesn't crinkle I boil it for another few minutes. I make lots of jams and this is my favourite....because you can alter the flavour ...
