Re: Starting small

been like it since childhood. Wherever I go, a large stash of useful bits follow.
I also have an interest in old aircooled vw's a by-product of which is a shed full of bits..
The scrounge gene is also quite strong, and my mind is always on 'What could I use this for'....

Re: Starting small

The 7Ah batteries were part of a large array of about 50. When the bloke came to change them, as they have to every 2 to 3 years, I hung around and claimed the 8 that were still at 12v. I managed to get them to below 12v at the weekend by leaving the lamp on. Now the next test will be to see how man...

Re: energy saving

I wish it were easier to get LED light bulbs here. Where's "here"? Somewhere over "there" I guess :) I have four GU10 led's in the boys bedroom, & they are just not bright enough. I repleced one back with the halogen, but that blew last werek, so back to dim. I have seen the...

Re: Starting small

The main aim for this wasn't to get any sort of payback, but a personal proof on concept. I am pleased that it seems to be working. I dont have much money for anything larger yet. I do have another bank of four 7ah batteries, which I may add to the system. Need to do the maths though as the panel ne...

I have been meaning to give Solar electric a go for a while. Recently, I received a Maplin mailout which had a 12w 12v solar panel on offer. I sent off for the panel, plus a charge controller. I salvaged four 7ah 12v UPS batteries from work that were due to be taken away, but still showed 12v. I att...

Re: Where's Davy S gone ?

Fair enough. Some of the posts were a bit troll like, some had novel ideas, I guess, some had other peoples ideas.
The pictures of Richmond were nice though...

Re: Starting window sill garden- questions

I grow peppers & chillis on my inside windowledge at work. The peppers were grown from seed from one I was having for tea. I get small, 10 - 13 cm fruit, before I harvest.

Re: bio-oil good?

Our local Bio-fuel supplier suggest that their UK produced oil is a by- product of the food industry. They also process waste veg oil, which is what I hope to use in our Vito.

Re: Seeds from Peppers

Yes. Had one of those long red peppers last year. Dried seeds, then gave them a spell in the fridge & then planted. I have 10 plants on my windowledge at work. One plant is on its second crop. I get miniature versions, say, three inches long. Taste nice though.

Re: Co-Op eco cleaning range

Generally - like you I use bicarb etc. The only thing I haven't found a suitable substitute for is dish washer tablets. I used the Co-Op ones recently and they were really good and a similar price to the regular ones - which is good as for some daft reason most eco brands tend to be much more expen...
