Re: Making natural cosmetics book

Update: I made a body butter bar a few days ago - so simple, only 3 ingredients! - and it's wonderful. No more faffing around scooping moisturiser out of a pot, just rub it on and you're done!
I've ordered myself some soy wax and cotton wicks and I'm going to attempt a candle next - wish me luck!

Re: Making natural cosmetics book

Good stuff. I've been making my own toiletries for years. I find, over the years, they've got simpler. These days I use oil (coconut/olive), aloe vera and essential oils for pretty much everything! I've just discovered coconut oil myself, what a wonder! I like the unrefined stuff because it has tha...

Re: What are you growing right now?

It's my first time growing cauliflowers and they're starting to get big (I bought them as plug plants). I don't have enough room in my planting beds to keep them all spaced out enough, so does anyone know if they would be alright growing in pots? Say, if I put them individually in medium sized pots....

Re: What are you growing right now?

The easiest way to tell when onions are ready is they fall over, that is the leaves fall over and bends (kinks) just above the bulb. When they do that they are ready to use, but if you want to store them wait until the leaves are dead and the bulbs have ripened. If you want to hasten the process yo...

Re: What are you growing right now?

I don't see a problem getting kits, especially if you're new to doing something and want to give it a try. My daughter bought me one a few years back - growing coffee on spent coffee grounds. It was good fun. Unfortunately we haven't had as much success without the kit! That does sound fun! :iconbi...

Re: What are you growing right now?

I've got peppers, strawberries, tomatoes and cauliflowers in the garden at the moment. Oh, and onions. I'm a bit dubious about harvesting the onions because a couple of times I've thought they looked ready then I pulled one out and it was tiny! They have such fat stalks but the onions themselves hav...

Making natural cosmetics book

I've been interested in making my own cosmetics and shower gels and the such for a while now. I know there are shops where you can buy natural and plastic free things but they're so expensive! So I thought I'd have a go at making my own. I picked up this book: https://www.tenderessence.com/products/...

Re: Banish Plastic

The fruit and veggie aisle in the supermarket really gets to me - so many unnecessary plastic bags that can't be recycled! My local supermarket actually went backwards at one point, the spring onions which are usually simply bunched with an elastic band, were one day in plastic bags! I stoppe...

I yoghurt pots to use as planters in the garden. It's great at first but comes a point where you are still eating yoghurt but have no need for any more planters :?

Hello from UK

Hello everyone, I'm Barbara! I'm from the UK and lately I've been trying to get better for the environment and be more self sufficient-ish. I've got a little garden going although I had some trouble germinating seeds, may have to go buy some young plants instead! I'm sure I'll get better at i...
