Re: ... get the green stuff off?

You could also use salt or vinegar. But be careful not to spoil it, while most living things will die.

Re: Greetings

Hi Roos, that's the big advantage of living in the countryside. The average garden size in Friesland is a lot different from the ones in Rotterdam ;). Do you manage to grow stuff on your balcony, or behind the windows?

Re: Greetings

I'm not sure to be honoust. I suspect they coloured the cheese and as they stopped doing it, they kept a red rind to have it keep its typical colour. But this is only a guess!

Re: Pear tree pruning

I would definitely start by cutting the little one. It will drain a lot of energy from the larger one, whilst being in the shade of the larger one for most of the time. Furthermore, try to create some space. Usually you'd want to have three, max four, main branches. Try to keep that in mind while yo...

Re: Greetings

I've actually never seen a black radish before. I will have to try it. Hopefully the local garden center has some seeds. @doofaloofa: That's easy! You must be talking about the best cheese in the world. The cheese which used to be colored with the juice of poppy flowers. I was actually born in Edam,...

Re: Greetings

Okay, thanks for the suggestion. I have some broccoli under glass, so let's see how it will turn out. I also have some carrots, but I guess that will be a disaster!

Re: Greetings

Thanks again for the warm welcome. You're name gave you away Annemieke. I didn't have to read your text to know you were Dutch  I guess your neighbours have some difficulty pronouncing your name! We have settled in Friesland in a small village near to the Waddenzee (sea). So we have lot...

Re: Greetings

Thanks Ina! I'm not sure if we have any unusual stuff. Something I did hardly see in the UK is Curly Kale. Which is eaten a lot in Holland (mixed with mashed potatoes). Furthermore it is quite difficult to say what we have that you don't. When you walk through a supermarket your attention is drawn t...

Re: ITV's The Real Good Life

Yesterday evening I was snooping around this forum and I found a discussion, link:

I think this was it. At least it sounded quite like what I had seen. Thanks for thinking along anyway

ITV's The Real Good Life

Hi there, A few years ago, we were on Holiday in Wales. A reality-show was on about some people trying to become self sufficient (in food). I think it must have been ITV's The Real Good Life. We don't get ITV in Holland, so I've never came to watch any more than the first episode. This episode, alon...

Greetings

Hi everyone, I'm Robert from the northern part of The Netherlands. Berltsum to be exact (the pronunciation is a bit easier than you'd think; i guess it would be something like 'bell-som'). We've just moved here and now finally have the garden I've always dreamed of. We've got some 800m2 with old fru...
