Re: Over excited beer (another how not to...)
Having a glance at Andy Hamilton's recipe, he suggests 3oz dry mugwort for 40 pints - with no other herbs.
Sounds an interesting drink, I'll have to try getting some mugwort.

Re: Over excited beer (another how not to...)
Easiest way would be to open them into a fermenting bin, let them ferment and rebottle after.
Out of interest what was your recipe?

Re: How not to ...
We've all done it, I made a 9% beer once because I forgot that malt extract was basically sugar, so 2 tins of extract plus the usual amount of sugar for 1 tin. To be fair it was a happy accident in that case (very nice beer, a definite sipping beer though). Just blend it with something dry.

Re: Newbie wine making instructions
The beers I brew (ignoring kits) are all based around Andy Hamilton's recipe from Booze for Free. For 5 gallons my general version is a tin of Coopers liquid malt extract (dark for preference), 50g bittering hops, 25g aroma hops (I've only ever done single hops beers, so for me bittering and aroma a...

Re: Newbie wine making instructions
This'll sound a little hostile, but for good reason - make sure you go on the brewing forum (same as crastney mentioned) not the homebrew forum - THBF got bought out and started to change, so all the old members (all the knowledge base) moved to the craft brew forum ( http://www.forum.craftbrewing.o...

Re: What i'm brewing at the moment
The elderberry cider sounds nice. I've only recently bottled last year's elderberry wine - need to find a new place to get elderberries for this year. Most recent brews I've got on are a gallon of rhubarb, two gallons of blackcurrant and a third gallon of blackcurrant made as a second run wine from ...

Re: What seeds are you saving this year ?
No need to worry about saving fennel seeds, brewtrog, unless you want them for cooking. Fennel is a perennial so will come back next year and it will seed itself around - crafty little wotsit that it is.. Sorry should have said I meant for cooking and brewing (well pastis making). MY herb patch is ...

Re: What seeds are you saving this year ?
Definitely going to keep fennel seeds, considering that is what we grew our fennel for, don't know if the parents are planning on keeping tomato seeds (I don't like toms and they're not good for brewing, so I leave them alone)

Sounds like it might be something similar to the bluebell in York (parlour pubs). Sounds good.

Re: Blackberry wine
Lactose isn't fermentable. Milk stout is a type of stout that has lactose added to make it sweet. It's quite a nice style.

Re: Blackberry wine
You could always add nonfermentable sweeteners (or sugars e.g. lactose) to add sweetness. Personally I prefer dry wines. Most wines improve with age and a dry wine will certainly get smoother.

I've got pysol actually. I was more looking for something I can take out and about. I've not got a smart phone and I don't want one either, so apps are useless.

Don't know where else to put this, so here shall do. Does anyone know any good single player games? Preferably something I can carry round and play anywhere, even better if I don't have to buy anything, top marks if I only need my brain (what little there is) or body. I already know one hand solitai...
