Homemade alternatives for shop lotions/creams for dry skin
The Internet is so full of information regarding this that it is really a struggle to try to find something decent. I suffered from excema which has gotten better now as I've gotten older, but I still need daily lotion on my dry skin. I have been looking for moving to an alternative that I can mix a...

Re: Trapping Crayfish in the UK
I was pretty disappointed on this article. One of the main reasons why signal crayfish is such a massive issue is that people keep moving traps in between different sites without properly cleaning their traps and hence risking introducing the signal crayfish eggs and/or crayfish plague to rivers/lak...

Re: What are you sowing ATM (Autumn)
I planted peas and broad beans to over-winter. Garlic is also in and swedes are growing happily, hopefully can harvest something in a month. I have also planted half of the allotment with a commercial cover crop seed mixture, leftovers from work. So, I got nice mixture of legumes, oil radish, etc. g...

Re: Sweetening cider before bottling
Right, so I opened my fermentation vessel and jugged in campden tablets and potassium sorbate. It seems like the yeast has already compacted so tightly on the bottom of the container that hardly anything moved when I moved and stirred the container. It is also very clear! However, why I wanted to ad...

Re: Growing peppers in an unheated greenhouse in the UK
this year was the first time ever that I grew my own veggies. We had 6 or 8 (can't remember) sweet pepper plants in an unheated greenhouse with several holes in it. In addition to that we sow them too late and when I removed the grow head (to make it grow more bushy) I stupidly pinched off the whole...

Sweetening cider before bottling
Hello folks, below there is already one topic regarding my cider making, but now I need advice for something else. So the fermentation is over but to be safe I am going to add campden tablets and potassium sorbate to ensure that there won't be messy surprises when it has been bottled. I have let the...

Mixing pressed apple juice and shop apple juice
Hey all, I bought myself 25l fermentation vessel to make cider just to realise that I might not get enough apples to fill it up. As I can't leave it half-empty then can I supplement the space with apple juice bought from a shop? I have campden tablets and wine yeast to start the fermention. Cheers f...

Re: chipper advice please
Make sure you know the size of chips it can produce. My father bought a chipper which is practically useless because the final product is too coarse for our purposes.

How do you consume your blackberries?
So far I frozen them and only used for breakfast smoothies. I was told I could make jam from them, but I got quite a bit of jam already and making more soon with the rest of the apples.
How else can you use them?

Re: Greetings from Poole/Boournemouth, England
I made my apple&cinnamon jam with a recipe found online, but I am too lazy to find the link. It is done roughly like this (from my own notes). For each 1kg of apples use; - 600g sugar - 1 lemon - 250 ml water - ½tbs cinnamon 1. Wash, clean and chop apples 2. Put them in water with lemon 3. add 1...

Greetings from Poole/Boournemouth, England
Hey all, I've recently moved to Poole/Bournemouth area (though been in the UK for 7 years now). For the first time I moved to a house where I had space to grow my own veggies and now I'm hooked! I have been growing veggies and herbs with my housemate and made plenty of apple jam as there was an appl...
