Re: Does anyone share my parenting philosophy?

I'm the same as Riff-Raff I'm afraid, so not much help there. Sleep was more important to me so I could function during the day, and there is a big difference between cries, so my 3 were all sleeping through the night early on. Weaning, you do what is right for you. The 'guidelines' are just that. T...

Re: What next? Going to school with no shoes?

See, the most profitable way to play the system, and the most encouraged as it's legal even if it is unethical, is to work. Not to sit at home. The job centre give you better off calculations that do include all your outcomes and will encourage you to not take a job if they think it will leave you w...

Re: What next? Going to school with no shoes?

I'd just like to point out you can get all those gadgets and such super cheap, and *most* parents on benefits will go without basic things to provide that entertainment for their children or get them by other means. I don't mean steal by the way, but we've had a computer and laptop gifted to us, Nin...

Re: 50 things to do before you're 11 3/4

I've never been wild camping. Was a little disappointed to see back garden listed as a place to do it. They should have just put camping. Geocaching is also on the full list. That one'll have to wait until my mobile is fixed. But most of the others I'm going to aim to do with the kids over summer. I...

Re: 50 things to do before you're 11 3/4

Why would I be winding you up? There's a few things I never got to do as a kid on the list and lots my kids haven't done yet because of where we live and lack of funds.

50 things to do before you're 11 3/4

Just stumbled across this site and I love it. Set up by the National Trust, I think, and has a great list of things kids should do before they're teens. https://www.50things.org.uk/ Just a few of the things on the list: 1.Climb a tree Make sure there is nothing under the tree which could hurt you in...

Chickenchargrill Both my girls go to Breakfast Club before school, only costs 50p for the hour (£5 per week for both) and means they can get a lift from our house to school. This is a little confusing. You give the girls breakfast them they go to breakfast club? Is it a social thing? I can see lots...

Re: Horse Trough Gardening

There appears to be man trying to drown a child in one of those photos!  I wondered what was happening in that picture too. Doesn't look like the most comfortable of Baptisms. I wouldn't be too worried about the zinc and I'm sure you can just get some paint to coat the drill holes, oth...

Re: What next? Going to school with no shoes?

A couple of my friends have done the same when they've had pupils who aren't getting enough food at home :( I don't understand it. Even at our poorest, the kids got fed. Both my girls go to Breakfast Club before school, only costs 50p for the hour (£5 per week for both) and means they can get a lift...

So happy!!

*Runs around house in an excited manner* How awesome are vegetables!?!?! With one thing or another, (run up to wedding, kids, rubbish weather, toddler who turns into the Tasmanian Devil when he's in the garden, work, slugs and so on) my veggie patch has gotten a little, teeny bit overgrown. I could ...

Re: Housecleaning Habits

So I would get your friend straight and makes sure they set aside Saturday mornings, 2 hours for every man women and child to clean and tidy, a 9 year old can be surprisingly good with a vacuum, get the Music on Loud and make it fun, sure they may be broke but they can have family fun, and all shar...

Re: Stupid Plants

I'd also like to say I have some very clever tomato plants, who have grown through the brambles and only have leaves on the parts of the plants above the brambles. They now look quite naked.

Re: Stupid Plants

Stupid peas using brambles for support instead of the lovely frame I made them. First chance I've had to go tidy the garden. Managed to save them all though, even if they did lose a few tendrils.
