Re: dresses for my eldest
Wow, what beautiful dresses. I must admit that as a little girl I never appreciated all the work my mum put into making dresses for me and my sister. I was a horrible pain in the bum when I had to stand still on the dining room table so that my mum could 'pin up' the dress. I would fidget and fuss b...

Re: Having a sort out
I enjoy making cards but I have so may cards already (without even using up my stash) that I would have to acquire another shed load of friends to use them all up. Either that I will have to live to be 120. My new years resolution was to drastically cut my stash down but I haven't really made a dent...

My husband sharpened a neighbour's knives and she very kindly arrived at my door with three huge tubs of raspberries, blackberries and strawberries. My neighbour has a fabulous allotment and was clearing out last years summer fruits from her three chest freezers in preparation for this years crop. '...

Re: Jubilee
For me the issue isn't whether the Royal Family are worth £12 or £80 a year. The point is that they are unelected and there is no option for me to refuse to hand over my hard earned cash to an over priveliged group of upper class elite. So we have been fortunate and the current monarch has been pers...

Reed diffuser scented oil refill
Someone bought me a reed diffuser as a gift. All the scented oil has now finished but I am left with a lovely, decorative bottle. My local garden centre sells the diffuser sticks for 50p but the scented oil is very expensive and seems to contain a lot of chemicals. Has anyone made their own refill? ...

Re: survive on a very tight budget
Hope you are managing with your new budget. I think that attitude is important, if you see it as a challenge rather than a difficulty you are more likely to stick to your budget rather than blowing it on something you didn't really need. Lots of really useful tips already but I would suggest growing...

Re: Is giving up, giving up
I can sympathise with your dilemma having just made the decision to give up a full time job. My husband had a really difficult time a few years ago with workplace bullying and was off work for over a year with depression. During that time I took promotion and the extra responsibility that it entaile...

Preserving
Just listened to a really intersting programme on Radio 4 about Preserving. It discussed the various ways to preserve food and explains that preserving food has become less popular since refrigeration but that there are health benefits to preserved foods. It is available as a download on Radio 4 htt...

Re: What have you found lately?
I am always bringing home other peoples unwanted items. Unfortunately all that stuff tends to fill our little house to the rafters. A few weeks ago we finally decided that we needed to have a good clear out. My husband wanted to take everything down to the dump but I persuaded him to put it all on o...

The Spend Less Handbook: 365 Tips for a Better Quality of Life While Actually Spending Less by Rebecca Ash I bought this and it was a pile of pants! If you are rich and wasteful it is probably a useful start but if you are a time hardened tight wad it is just irritating. I learned that: 1) If you sh...
