Re: Decent UK bartering site?

I've not heard of any bartering sites. Maybe you could start one?! I have considered starting a batering site that incorporates a feedback system like Fleabay. I'm not sure I have the time to drive the traffic there to make it worthwhile. I might take advantage of Fleabay's traffic and advertise th...

Re: survive on a very tight budget

I'm on the rock 'n' roll (dole), and find it hard to cope with rising food prices. I generally try to stick to protein & grains to keep me full for longer (cheap eggs, liver, lentils, that sort of thing). I stopped eating foods that were rich in carbs as I became hungry soon after (rice, bread)....

Decent UK bartering site?

I'm hoping to barter my services as a web designer for particular items.

From personal experience, can somebody recommend a decent UK bartering site?

If anyone's interested, I create both e-commerce & personal websites.

There's a decent GBP group over at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GingerBeerPlant/
You might be able to get a free plant here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GingerBee ... Rows&tbl=1

Re: Fishing for Crayfish

I too wanted to trap for personal consumption and thought I would do it legeally and properly and what a minefield. I applied for a licence but first I have to tell them what part of what river I want to trap in,then I have to get that owners permission for that part of the river .Then...! I reappl...

Re: mushroom hunting

The collins Gem book is pretty good, but for edibles only I'd get the River Cottage Handbook No.1 by John Wright.

Re: Fishing rights - who owns a river?

I rang the Enviroment Agency, 03708 506 506** (Mon-Fri, 8am - 6pm), and the local fisheries officer mentioned getting in contact with either the local council/parish, angling club. Also mentioned getting in touch with the land owner; I suspect you visit the Land Registry for the info. I would've tho...

Homemade plant pots anyone?

Went down town to buy some ordinary plastic plant pots, and was surprised at the prices! As I don't have any medium-large containers that I could ultilize, I'm thinking of making my own pots. Here are some possible solutions: 1) Paper mache - newspaper mixed with wallpaper paste and made waterproof ...

Re: Indoor pest! Sciarid / Fungus Flies.

Good tips here. I've also found out that putting a layer of dry, sharp sand on the soil stops the flies laying the eggs. To get rid of the larvae under the soil, nematodes (approx £7 per pack) will help. But the downside is cost as they need to be applied every 6-8 wks. Somebody suggested using neem...

Indoor pest! Sciarid / Fungus Flies.

I'm having problems with tiny black flies with my indoor plants. The buggers, also known as Sciarid / Fungus flies, are now buzzing around as I'm typing this. I've found out that they're attracted to damp compost, and that the maggots cause alot of damage to the tender roots of seedlings (although w...

Re: Keeping celery fresh?

Thanks all for tips on keeping celery, and mentioning Lovage (something I've never heard of, but would like to try).

I liked Annpan's idea of putting them into a pot of water, so will give that a try. Cheers me dear!

Re: Puncture proof tyres

I also second the Marathon Plus tyres. They enable me to ride around glass strewn roads with gay abandon! They're pricey, but there are cheaper alternatives on Fleabay.
