replace a wood-burning furnace with an aga
Hi everyone, I've a nice v. big wood burning boiler which runs a joint central heating system with a gas boiler. There is a lagged tank in the roof which open (not closed) so that we don't explode the central heating by overheating with wood. The current system doesn't have any active pumps but just...

Poorly Goats slowing down
Hi people I've a problem with my flock of goats. The offspring of my two breeding goats seems to be doing fine and then they start to slow down, they stop eating, being active and then eventually die from a collapse of the nervous system(Vet's diagnosis). I feed them oats, barley, wheat and Hay. They...

Re: Home-made Rabbit Trap
I can't use a firearm here in hungary and i would prefer a drop-trap. I don't like the idea of snares unless I'm dying of hunger

Re: Rammed by a Ram
I know Sheep's heads are built like Goats which are really tough - The electric Cattle prod idea may work well, I'll see what I can borrow/buy at the local shops. I would so agree with the animals know the difference in Gender. Our female pigs (currently in the freezer) would go crazy round me (and ...

Re: Rammed by a Ram
I've a softball bat and I'm not too afraid of him, Just wary. He isn't too fast and if he rams again, I'll uppercut him as I step out the way. I'm ok with being the dominant member of the flock, the question is, how will he respond to the wife? Will he see her as competition or Boss?

Rammed by a Ram
This morning, I was rammed by my 90kg Ram. 'Twas a rather unpleasant experience and only a large bruise on the butt is the outcome of the experience. I managed to escape by parrying its charges until I got to a gate and could lock myself into safety I think I inadvertently threatened the ram by isol...

Store Bales of Straw and hay?
Hi lovely people My ever expanding collection of Goats/rabbits have required me to buy a large number of Straw and hay bales. I've enough physical space on my land to keep them but my question is what is the best way to keep them fresh/dry? Should I put them under tarpaulins individually or as a gro...

Home-made Rabbit Trap
Morning Team I woke up to find a wild hare in my veg patch. After checking isn't not one of my rabbits which has escaped, I was wondering if there is a way to make a trap so I can catch and eat it :) I've had a brief look online and Most suggestions are for using a snare. I was wondering if people h...

Re: Where is everyone?New post section perhaps?
My problem connecting here is when there are too many posts - at one point there were 200+ messages a day and I couldn't connect into the conversations. I've been dipping in and out and when a discussion look interesting, I get stuck in. I'm grateful for all the cool advice I've received here and ju...

Re: Higher fat meat rabbits?
One of the things about rabbits is that they produce lean meat. You can get big rabbits but they are really fat. You want to go for something like a New Zealand white/red and something with a bit of flemish in it. They will produce about 2 kgs rabbits. Here in Hungary, lots of people produce rabbit ...
