No problem! Hope the seller will ship one to you. I can recommend banana, sugar and cinnamon/nutmeg when you get bored of cheese!

Re: New Ducks!
Just to re-emphasise,it really is worth putting something around the perimeter of your pond that they walk on rather than go straight from grass/soil/mud to pond, even a flat bit of wood is better than nothing, but the sort of stuff with holes in it that you wipe your feet on outside the back door an...

Re: New Ducks!
We've (semi) trained ours to go to bed when they're told. They'd rather sleep next to their pond (bottom half of a tortoise sandpit the local playgroup were going to throw away because it has no lid, so not quite as safe in the middle as they might think...) but if you say 'bed!' loudly as you heard...

Re: What new things are you planting/trying?
Jerusalem artichokes make a good water-chestnut substitute in chinese dishes, but are a bit of a bu&&er to peel. There are two types of JA. Can't remember the names but the smooth variety peels like a spud. Love 'em Fuseau? Alys Fowler says if your JA's are invasive you're not eating enough...

Re: Hearth cooking! It worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Much as I'd hate to promote consumerism, I have one of these http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/diablo-sandwich-toaster/ and it's great for cooking little pies over (or ineed under - I haven't tried it that way) the fire. Ha! Looks great...I'd like one square-ish in shape with a longer handle. Good ide...

Re: mulching, your thoughts are required.....
I have been thinking of not digging my ridiculously overgrown potato patch and just planting the pots, mulching with horse manure and putting black plastic over it all, then cutting the holes when the leaves come through. I am hoping this will kill all of the grass growing underneath. But I am just...

And guess what my mum will greet me with the next time I see her  She says she agrees with my principles but whenever there's an article like this it gets saved for me. Re: Eco-friendly meat?
I don't know that one type of meat is more eco-friendly than another. There must be so many variables I wouldn't fancy calculating it. Pheasant sounds good, but those I've had have had crops stuffed full of corn- not ideal when that could go to feed people, and where did the pheasant food come from?...

Well done Andy.
I thought you came across really well, when they'd let you finish a sentence. I'm off to email Autumnwatch to tell them to show the rest
I got 2/4 in the quiz too- didn't get the Woodcock and said coots foot...

Re: Pear jam?
Anyway in the meantime I am munching away on peaches and hmk my cellar-cum-laundry/mud room is getting rather full of apples for storing, peaches and windfalls for cooking with. No room in the kitchen cos that's full of tomatoes! Lol! Sorry to hear about your tree. DH and his friends are off apple ...

Re: Pear jam?
I wouldn't mind being inundated with peaches  I have apples...everywhere. In the shed, ready to be turned into cider; bags of eating apples ready to be wrapped and stored in the hallway; bags of misc apples in the kitchen; apple rings and leather in the dehydrator; apple and blackberries on...

The Pear and lemon jam on the Cottage Smallholder site that SusieGee linked to is delicious. Fiona has some great recipes on her site, and I highly recommend that one.

Re: Please, how do I make Blaand?
Perhaps if one doesn't quaff enough it might explode but we all know the answer to that one. " It's alright dear I'm just stopping the cottage from exploding"   Self-fermenting dairy by-product that may explode if you don't drink enough. Call me unadventurous, but ricotta ...
