Scots Grey chooks

Does anyone on here keep them? Ours are only chicks but I'm in love already, they are so healthy and self sufficient (no ish!) at 13 days old. They are pestering me in the mornings to get out into the garden, fighting over worms, then cuddling into my spaniel for a snooze. He thinks he is the proud ...

Re: Make your own polytunnel cheap!

I have done well with cucumbers, going to do more this year. The only thing we added to the polytunnel was a ventilation grille at the end opposite the door to stop mould. I tried beans last year, they went mouldy but everything else has been fine. The tunnel is still going strong despite the winds ...

Re: Old brewing recipes

I have made it at last!! Smells very herbal and nice and knocks your socks off!! I haven't left it for a month yet, think it might be a killer once it has matured. On the other hand, my wee dog (age 16) has an enlarged heart and as both mistletoe herb and the motherwort are good for hearts I gave hi...

Re: Make your own polytunnel cheap!

That would be more solid, our soil is like concrete anyway so the wood worked fine for us. It is still looking good this spring after two hard winters, not bad!

Re: Old brewing recipes

I know, it does sound a bit dodgy!! I bought mistletoe herb in the brewing / health food shop near my dads so it can't be to bad, cost a whole 35p. I'm going to make this, will let people know the effects, if i survive  :shaking: :pukeright:

Re: Cooking with a hay box? How pacific islanders do it

Finishing the cooking in bed is a brilliant idea! No need for a hot water bottle!

Re: Cooking with a hay box? How pacific islanders do it

You can do it with a cardboard box and shredded newspaper, I used to have one. Two cardboard boxes, one needs to fit snuggly over the other, and some newspaper or straw. My pan had a handle on it so I cut slots in both boxes for the handle to stick out. It was a bit of a pain that the paper went eve...
