Garlic candles for conservatory How?
Hi All I was wondering if anyone had any experience with using a garlic candle for fumigation of a greenhouse or conservatory. I am currently using my conservatory to bring stuff on before planting out and for growing apples and pears (in tubs). Unfortunately for the last couple of years I have been...

Re: bike trailer
I bought a Raleigh Mule fold down trailer from Amazon and it has made a huge difference. Where I live there are 3 shops on the island and it was quite a walk to get to them and to carry the shopping back. The trailer is really stable and I've managed to get 4 bags of shopping home in it. The fact it...

Re: Cyclists against the world!
Where I live now, it is great! The motorists are all fantastic and give you plenty of room and time. When I lived in Norwich, I was overtaken by a flatbed truck with a plank crosswise, the plank hit me a across the back of the head and knocked me off the road. He didn't stop. I was also nearly knock...

Re: In what way are you naughty?
I buy spiced rum, although I homebrew, mead just takes too long! I am making turbo cider as an alternative to buying in (although the juice here comes in tetrapak :-( )

Re: How do i prevent Wasps and spiders from getting in my ho
I don't know if this will help but.. melt some pine resin/pitch in the bottom of a can shake in a generous amount of black pepper (or dried crushed Tansy for biting flies). Heat the pitch until it begins to smoke. take the smoking can to doorways etc and let the smoke coat your door frames, windowsi...

Re: What wild foods are about in your neck of the woods
Here in Bedford UK we have nettles coming up, loads of chickweed, chervil, some Garlic Mustard. The hawthorns are budding so will soon have leaves. There are also plenty of maples for the sap.

Re: Thinking about keeping bees?
I am doing a BKA course and had no idea that there was an alternative. Since finding out about top-bar hives I have decided to keep bees like that rather than the standard way, it is just so much more in keeping with my ideals and the planet. Thank you for putting the information out there. Have Fun

Hi all
I am hoping to move up to Shetland later in the year and was wondering if anyone knew anything about what wild food is available up there. Most of my knowledge is based in southern/central England. If anyone knows or can recommend any sources of information I would be grateful.
Thanks

Re: Newbie to foraging
Richard Mabey's Food for Free is also available in a pocket size edition which is useful. Ray Mears Wild Food is also good, I found that the DVD made some of the things in the book easier to grasp ie you could see them doing it not just read it. Some history books on the area you are in also give de...
