Re: Skills you're most proud of

What a lovely thread! And what a very talented bunch of people there are in Ish-land... Things I can do and am proud of: stand up in folk clubs across the land and sing, unaccompanied, without people running away paint pictures well enough to sell some (not many, but it's a start, eh?) knit and croc...

Re: About to expire from excitement

That's absolutely brilliant! I'd be expiring too... in fact, I virtually am anyway on your behalf :flower: I saw your tie skirt on your blog and thought it looked brilliant. If I ever wore anything other than jeans and thick pullies, I'd think about having a bash myself. Have a big something nice to...

Re: Looking to move to a rural location.

Sark is very beautiful. It has a school, and a fair number of houses. It even has vehicles (tractors are permitted, I think!). Plus points: it's small, safe and gorgeous. You could certainly be more ISH there. Negatives: it's a small island, which can take a little adjusting to if you're not used to...

Re: TV licencing bloke calls...

Graye, this sort of thing drives me up the wall. I'm with your husband on this one! When we lived in the UK, we didn't have a TV. We kept getting *those* letters from the licensing people, telling us basically that they didn't believe us, and would be sending someone round to check. MrLovelyHorse di...

Re: Moving country to be self sufficient

Ah yes, the cats... We've tried to arrange the move so it will be as stress-free as possible for them (though of course *totally* stress-free just isn't feasible). It's taken some working out and, obviously, will be MUCH more stressful for us! The day before the removal men arrive, we'll take the ca...

Re: Moving country to be self sufficient

I think you're definitely on the right track. Mind you, I have to say that, as we're doing much the same thing! There are certain things we want from life, and we've realised that we simply can't afford to do them in England (they involve me working part time, and OH working as a potter). We *can*, ...

Re: In what ways aren't you green?

My biggest non-green sin... is that I've just bought a tumble drier. I'm hanging my head in shame as I type... We're moving to a house in France in a couple of weeks. The house doesn't have an airing cupboard. It has radiators, but I think I'd prefer them to be heating the house rather than some dam...

Re: really excited

Excellent! Well done you for goig out and doing it. And the results will be brilliant. I'm very lucky. MrLovelyHorse is a potter. So I have all this pottery equipment here, and a lovely patient man to show me techniques and help when I get stuck. Unfortunately, at the moment I don't get time to enjo...

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and for celebrating with me!

Yes, the house is in the Corrèze. And I'm about to try to upload a photo of it, so you can see the house... Bear with me, not done this before...

Have to tell someone...

I feel like I'm about to explode with excitement, so I need to share what's happening in my life at the moment. After years of planning and scheming, our plans to move to France are finally becoming reality. At the end of September we're due to sign the Acte de Vente (completion, in English terms) o...

Excellent! I found a couple of baby ones last week, and had them sliced into a salad. I'd love to find a decent sized one though... Yum.

Re: (Swiss) Chard

I understand your plight. We have a recipe which we call, perhaps unfairly, 'Inedible green'. It's not that the final *dish* is inedible, just that it's the only recipe that we've found which will render any random bit of green (eg chard, kale) completely delicious. With chard we usually shred the l...

Re: ... start making soap (stupid questions)

Good luck with the soap making - it's great fun, and completely addictive. I haven't bought any soap for years! 1 - Yes, you can use the same pans and bowls. I use a big stainless steel pan for my soap making, and a pyrex jug. 2 - I just use ordinary water! 3 - I use a stick blender to get to trace....
