Re: Help! Invasion of small white millipede things! Any idea

Thank you all for your help! Yes, I think they are spotted snake millipedes, thank you chickencharrgrill! I've done a bit more research on the subject, I wonder if I've actually brought this infestation on myself by digging in a lot of organic matter (from my compost heap) this winter. I don't think...

Help! Invasion of small white millipede things! Any ideas?

Hi All, I wonder if anyone can help to identify (and suggest a control) for these little things? I'm not having any luck finding anything about them in any of my books or on Google.... I've noticed them in the garden before and they eat into carrots/parsnips/potatoes and things like that. This year ...

Re: Mushroom I.D. Please

Hiya, I've just done a quick google for an i.d. on 'burma cubensis' and although its hard to see from the two photos, I don't think those are your burma cubensis. The stem looks too thin, the wrong colour, and i think there should be a ring on it too. I'd give them a miss, if I were you. HTH Kate :i...

Re: Come in Durgan!

I miss him too. I liked all his galleries (a lot of work went in to those), and his wee dog! And, after a disastrous year for carrots, i'd even made a note in my gardening book to "use Durgan method next year"! Come back Durgan!

Yes! You definitely will get better, happier, faster, more confident, fitter, slimmer and all of these things! How can I be so sure? Because I was exactly like you when I got my first grown-up bike about two years ago! I puffed and wobbled and got frightened when I saw a car, and now I whizz about t...

Ok, I know this thread isn't about the ad you hate the most BUT this one used to drive me mad! It couldn't come on the telly without me turrning over/off, leaving the room or shouting "YOU UNGRATEFUL B*T*H!!!" at the TV.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft-RvOAeRe8 What were they thinking...

Re: foolproof foraging books for beginners?

Hi! The Collins Gem book on mushrooms is good for general identification, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collins-Gem-Mus ... 0007183070 but this sounds exactly like what you're after: http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Identify-Mu ... 0007259611 it really is terriffic, with sections divided up into edibles and po...

Re: Share your successes 2012

Well this week I am really pleased with planting out about 400 raspberry canes, 40 Roses, 30 box, 40 blackcurrant, 40 goji berries, 100 Lemon Mint, a couple of big hop plants, 10 lavender, some Sea Stattice and some Rhubarb and comfrey, all made from seeds, division or cuttings. It's the initial pl...

Re: Inventors Corner

Aha, good point. I was thinking more of an electric kettle. Surely it would heat up more quickly if it was insulated? Zoe Not to any significant degree, because the power of the element can only change the cold water into boiling water at a certain rate. It would, however, keep the water in the ket...

Re: Books to avoid

Seaweed and Eat It, by Fiona Houston and Xa Milne. Utterly useless and totally nauseating! I bought it because I though it would give me practical instruction on gathering, cleaning, and cooking mussels, whelks, shrimps etc etc. What a disappointment! It was just chock of poncy photos of them (and t...
