Re: Uses for used cat litter?

returning to the subject.....alas the cat is no longer with us :-( But we now have two new ones. They are less inclined to 'go' in the house so we get through less litter these days. We tried the wood based ones but found that it was very light - cat would do it's do in the try but by the time it go...

Last year's spuds as seed?

Is there any reason why I shouldn't used the first earlies that still I have int he shed as seed potatoes for this year? They seem to be happily chitting away like mad. And given that this particular variety is £7 a bag from the supplier and I normally use three bags, it would seem mad not to use la...

Re: Puncture proof tyres

Solid tyres can be pretty aweful to ride on. Dunno about the newest ones, but some of the older ones, although not p*nct*ring, they did cut up pretty bad after very little use. Best tyre that I've used on the road is the Marathon Plus - very p*nct*re resistent due to inbuild kevlar belt etc. Althoug...

Re: growing veg in a front garden

I'm going to have a go at front gardening (because the back is in shade most of the day). I I get trouble I might try making up some signs warning people that everything has been sprayed with nasty toxic pesticides (it won't have been but how are they to know?)

Sprout droop

Hello all. Am having the same problem I had last year. Put my sprout seeds into a seeed tray and in no time at all they poked their heads up into the big scarey world. they rapidly shot up to around 3 inches tall and then they've all just keeled over. It's as through they can't support their own wei...

Re: Cyclists against the world!

Woo-hoo, a small victory. There was a dangerous gate on one path- it was one of those anti-motorbike things but the kids on the motorbikes had smashed the two top bars off it leaving only the bottom one around 4 inches from the floor. Because of the angle of approach it was not easy to spot this bar...

Re: Cyclists against the world!

In the end I gave up the post of cycle rep for the CTC as I couldn't do anything constructive and believe me my head was well bruised froom banging on a brick wall. My sympathies....I'm still doing it (both CTC RTR and banging head against the wall). Currently playing another game of pass the parce...

Re: Dick Strawbridge's green test

thanks for the link. 1.68  although there wasn't an option for grow most of your own food which would probably have helped. and the advice it gave: "walk more" when I don't have a car, use the train for less than 2 hrs and never fly or use the bus seems a little stupid...what does it...

Re: victorian farm

I'm enjoying the series, also enjoyed the Green Valley. So much better than all the other recent historical-fly on the wall progs where they just do bigbrother but with mud and animals. And I now have a claim to fame......spent a few weeks with Alex and Fonzie (Peter) digging (well, drinking mostly)...

Dick Strawbridge's green test

Watching It's not easy being green last night I thought that I'd have a go at Dick Strawbridge's green test to see how many plents I use. But after faffing around the bbc website for a while I couldn't get to a website for the program to find the tes...all i could get was the iplayer of past episode...
