Re: Watch out! It's still hanging around.

Oh - another thing  If you happen to be growing chillis in your greenhouse/patio/scout hut (and you should be!!) and you come across the advice to control vegetative growth by restricting the plants to smallish pots thus stressing the plant into producing many, many more fruits, ignore it. It'...

Re: Watch out! It's still hanging around.

It's bloody ridiculous weather, and I'm taking full advantage. Sitting in a folding chair drinking home-made medicine is sheer torture, but someone's got to do it. It makes up for all the wasted time trying to get Yellow Rocoto chillis to germinate. One did but fell over shortly afterwards and I've ...

Watch out! It's still hanging around.

Evening all, and what a perfectly gorgeous, late afternoon, evening I'm having. I've solved a few problems (painfully - everyone knows best, don't they?) and have spent today preparing a 16 ft x 4 ft bed. I got the whole thing done, which I'm annoyingly pleased about. Smug, or what? Waves to everyon...

Re: Busy day

Glad to hear you're back in business, GA. I was wondering how you spent all 36 hours of the day without it.

Re: Dried Beans

A visual treat, at least. I'd be interested in the taste - "beefy" seems an odd description (unless they literally taste like beef).
I envy your hydroponics rig - the luxury of stand-up gardening! Maybe I should have gone into comedy.

Re: Growing in 2018 weather

It's a good year for peppers (the non-chilli kind), though. I can't even remember why I sowed them. Oh - and the runner beans in the tubs very near to the house have just started beaning after lots of loving care throughout the drought. The crop of robins and blackbirds is pretty good too.

Re: Random wine

Well, I tasted it again. It's surprisingly pleasant for what is, after all, sweetened and heavily diluted odds'n'ends juice. It's also surprisingly red considering the small amount of blackberries in it. However, I'm going to set it off tonight with maybe a half-teaspoon of citric acid, a tenth of a...

Re: RAIN !!

Finally, we've had a deluge. The lawn is saturated, the orchard is dripping, and there's more to come (according to the Met. Office). I may go and stand in it later, arms outstretched, slowly rotating whilst humming ethereal tunes. Or maybe not.

Re: RAIN !!

We're still waiting. I've been watching the forecast for rain (every day for the last week) slowly turn into wall-to-wall sunshine for what seems like months. We're due a thunderstorm right now, but all I can see is sunshine. Hey ho - maybe tomorrow.

Re: Random wine

There were too many blackberries this morning to chuck into random wine - they're now being collected in the freezer. So, it all has to go with what it has. The moment we've got rid of the 2-year-old disruptor, its time for the go. If I still have any energy left at all, that is. Sultry heat and a y...

Re: Random wine

I had a sip last night. Pleasant, certainly very light - a bit too light, in fact. So this morning it got another handful of blackberries (they're ripening at precisely that rate at the moment) and a half-dozen more apples and a past-its-best stick of rhubarb. Tonight it will be de-fruited, topped u...
