Re: Scrumping From Neighbours

They'll still be perfectly fine to use even if they're not pretty. I vote for knocking on his door and offering to collect them, in return for a pot of apple sauce or bottle of apple wine. You never know, he might just be a bit less grumpy then.

Re: Squash harvest

I think that's called Sod's Law!

I hope they develop some flavour or you're going to have to get creative with the flavourings.

Re: Hi from a half way place

Hi Purple, welcome to Ish.
I lived in Tameside for 20+ years. There’s a lot of good foraging out towards Derbyshire.
I’m now in the North Highlands of Scotland.

Re: Indoor raised bed

They're mainly foliage plants - vegetables and herbs, for sharing with the community. I thought it might be appropriate for a community centre.

Re: Strawberries

In this house we call that grazing, not harvesting, they'd never make it as far as the house. We'd thoroughly enjoy them all the more for it.

Re: Winter storms

Meh, we've not needed to venture out, apart from Thursday, when the gal and I went to Inverness to shop. It's a little earlier than usual but this iss standard autumnal weather thus far. It hasn't been cold though - we've not needed to light the boiler yet, although I think it won't be too much long...

Re: Does anyone know.....

Unfortunately we threw away all the seeds - I just managed to whip out this little blighter before they were unceremoniously dumped by OH. Can't grumble too much - it's taken me 30+ years to get get him to tidy up!

Crikey, you're lucky that was all the damage.

The sky, here, has been a very odd colour this evening. Heavens knows what's brewing!

Re: Does anyone know.....

Yes, I think that's the best plan, Zoe, it's still doing well, growing slowly but quite happily. I'll move it to another room which is much cooler soon - we're near the stage of lighting the boiler, so I think it will be too warm on the living room widowsill and I am slightly concerned, KL, that com...

Does anyone know.....

.....if I can overwinter a squash plant? We got a lovely acorn squash in the veg box a couple of weeks ago. I cooked it and left the gubbins - seeds etc in the bowl for taking out to the compost. The following evening when we came to take it out there was a teeny sprout growing - I'm guessing it was...

Hi Jasmine, welcome to Ish.

I like Eliot Coleman's work too. I've got his 4 season polytunnel book - unfortunately no polytunnel any more.

Have a look round the threads, old and new. We'll try and answer any questions you might have.

Re: What are you growing right now?

Erm, pretty much everything has finished up here but we had tomatoes, cucumbers, chillies, herbs, berries and apples - oh and two small pears (but that's a huge improvement on the none we've harvested before  ). We're not eating spuds or many root veg so there's no point in growing them. The h...
