Re: The courgette glut

I've recently made Courgette Butter. Great in sandwiches, or just melting on top of your cooked veg (or on a steak). It's a very easy recipe - grate, salt and drain your courgettes, then squeeze out as much juice as possible. Fry a couple of cloves of garlic in a good amount of butter (I suppose you...

Re: Free food

I've never grown any, Weedo - never had enough land to even consider it. I have bought whole wheat to grind myself as it stores much longer than flour. Having only a hand-powered mill I nearly killed myself making enough flour for one loaf! OK, maybe I wasn't near death but it took ages, mainly beca...

Re: Free food

More oats = less grass cutting? We've got a few freebie cereals growing under the bird feeders. Not enough to bother with though.

Re: Free food

That looks like fun. You should keep replanting some of it until you get a field full of freebies!

Re: Grapes

It's Moroccan, I think. I can take or leave fresh pomegranates - the flavour to pain in the bum to eat ratio is way too low to bother with.
The highly concentrated flavours of the molasses are absolutely delicious though. I even put a splash in my gal's tofu bacon marinade.

Re: Growing Melons

Prying allowed. It gave me an opportunity to boast a little - I am quite chuffed about it. I'm sure your T1 diabetes is well controlled but for those less fortunate keto is having good results for them too - although with medical supervision to monitor insulin needs as requirements can change quite ...

The small ones produced 1.4 litres of juice which will be slowly reduced to a syrup for sweetening stewed fruit and making some dried apricot jam.
Sort of a grape molasses. I'd imagine it's really tasty, maybe a bit like pomegranate molasses - have you tried that?

Re: Growing Melons

You're being very pedantic, mister, and I may have to come round and sort you out. I've had weight problems most of my adult life and have yo-yo dieted for all of it. Although never diagnosed I'm fairly certain I was heading for T2 diebetes and probably a load of other health problems. This pa...

Re: Growing Melons

I obviously can't press y twice. Or proof read.
Melons are too high carb - too much sugar. The only fruit I eat at the moment are fresh or frozen berries - blackcurrants, blueberries, raspberries etc.

When I'm sylph-like I'll indulge in melons and bananas ( I miss bananas very much).

Re: That other plastic problem

Aye, that'll be progress.
We have a small stack of cheque books - does anyone take cheques any more? I'm not entirely sure wht to do with them. Maybe in a few years I'll be able to sell them as antiques on Ebay.

Well we may just be joining you this year, with our hydropnic mini toms.

Thanks for the reminder, we probably need to get some going soon.
