Yes, we've got some SA Plenty seedlings.
OH has just told me we've got lettuce growing under and upturned plastic crate in the garden!

Re: What are you growing right now?
I know but I think it's too early for the plant to survive until proper squash growing season and not sufficient light up here to produce any decent fruits(?). We nurtured this seedling that grew all by itself inside a squash and it has lived on our living room windowsill since about October. I don'...

Re: 5 or 9 acres?
It depends what you want it for and how you intend to manage it. You can probably produce as much on the better 5 acres as you can on the 9. Is there any chance neighbouring land might become available in the future?

Tomatoes and chillies. Oh and apparently that squash is trying hard - no insects to pollinate it though.

Re: What are you reading?
Thomzo's book arrived, late last week. I've resisted the temptation to dive in thus far - I'm in the middle of a detective series - but I can't see me holding out much longer. Dottore Brunetti may get put on hold for a bit.

Re: Water butt - no down pipe
No problem with rain here either. If I had a water butt, at the moment (well one connected to anything) it would be overflowing.
My self set squash plant has two huge flowers though. Probably not the best of times for it.

Re: What are you growing right now?
Air drying? I can barely get my washing dry at this time of year. Today, thus far, has been about washing (as, in truth is most days), making bone broth and greek yoghurt, and cooking a batch of black peas (aka gungo, pigeon and carlin peas) for portioning and freezing - curry goat later this week, ...

Re: Hello from South Africa
Welcome to Ish, Terence.
Sounds like a fun time, planning what, where and how you're going to grow stuff.
Start small, maybe just do one or two beds and see how it goes.
Have a look round the forum, there's tons of info that might be of help.

Re: Water butt - no down pipe
As ina said. I did wonder if a tarpauline, facing the usual rain direction might gather enough to act as a big collector, but it might also take off in high winds!

I'm guessing the image has been lost in the mists of time, Elise. I haven't been able to access any of my flickr pics for years!

Me too, and I've got tons of aida and silks waiting to be used. Maybe this year.
And welcome from me as well, Elise.

This popped up in my FB feed this morning. I found it quite a good critique of the aforementioned diet.
Oh, and some of the comments underneath made me laugh out loud.

Re: Our new world diet?
Indeed. I think organic often ishorthand for "least worst". I'd go for permaculture grown or from small, local producer these days. There does seem to be a growing trend, albeit slowly and maybe it's a UK thing, towards small, mixed farming again. The problem then is that, being right on trend, a lo...

Re: Our new world diet?
It is ridiculously hard to do something that should be quite simple, isn't it. I'm not sure it needs to be organic, ina. A lot of small producers use organic methods, but can't afford the certification. If the butcher is selling locally produced meat, it's probably fine - certainly much better than ...
